Although floss is the apparent answer, I’m thinking silly string.

You have certainly heard of a 'Rain Dance'.
Blue string 'Rain Floss' was used in some dances
by certain indigenous peoples.

(Yes, I'm making this up...)

LOL

We went to Belize on a cruise in 2018 ..

During a shore excursion at a Mayan temple, we were assured that the Mayans were loving and kind to strangers and friends alike and never killed anyone and those dark stains at the top was not old blood ..

After suffering through a long explanation on how the horrible rumors of human sacrifice got started about the innocent wee savages, we just rolled our eyes at each other and turned away to snicker at the idiocy ..

Oh bad us ...

:)

Human sacrifice 1,000 years ago? But....I thought the Natives were all happy little pixies frolicking in the surf before those big bad Europeans arrived and brought so much violence to the “peaceful” natives.

All those “great” MesoAmerican civilizations that people can’t praise enough were heart-cutting horrors.

Such scientific reporting. They “ scraped the gunk off six teeth”. I am so impressed with the highly technical insight of the author.

Tlaloc was the Aztec rain god. Chaac was the Mayan rain god. I’m not sure if evidence exists for child sacrifice to Chaac, but there is evidence that it existed for Tlaloc. Supposedly they found uniform wounds on all the children’s bones at the sacrifice site. The theory is that the wounds were inflicted pre-execution in order to make the children cry, as Tlaloc was moved by the purity of the children’s tears. In return, he would send rain.
