Knew about him in the mid-1970s. Fascinating stories about how the border guards’ eyes were cloaked, and the Bibles he was smuggling were in plain sight at times.
He exhibited a simple, but extraordinary, faith that he would be protected and would succeed in getting Bibles in countries where it was not allowed.
A different era.
Our church at the time supported three men behind the Iron Curtain doing the similar work, as part of our Missions program.
Isaiah 55:11:
“So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the purpose for which I sent it.”
Brother Andrew will now see many faces in Heaven of those who are there because of the Word he brought to them in captivity.

Congratulations to President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro on greatly “outperforming” inaccurate early Fake News Media polls & getting into a two person runoff, to take place October 30th, with a Radical Left challenger. Now that other Conservatives are out of the race, President Bolsonaro is in a very strong position to win BIG. More importantly, he will be victorious because the wonderful people of Brazil appreciate the great job he has done, and is doing. Tremendous Voter Surge over last 24 hours!
I, too, learned about him in the 70s. What thrilling stories he told. I was encouraged and strengthened in my desire to trust God and dare to do bold things for His Kingdom. I call it “radical obedience.” His prayer to shut the guards eyes as he crossed borders has lived on in my heart. I have prayed similar prayers now knowing that the same sovereign God is also the potentate of time and is still mighty today.
About 1997, Brother Andrew came to the place where I work. I was able to thank him for his example to people who have come after him. No doubt in my mind that he is now more alive than ever.
Amen to that.
About that time, I read about Corrie Ten Boom, also from Holland, who had similar experiences in the Nazi concentration camps a generation before.
Stories like these inspired my faith as well.
