I was watching the live video of that pier yesterday, even before the video cut out you could start seeing pieces of wood coming off, I knew it wouldn’t make it.
Normally, I would say the area would be rebuilt in a few years, but with this economy, things weren’t all that great even before the hurricane, so it may be decades before it comes back to anything resembling what it was.
Unbelievable
"Holy $h!+!"
This is what happens when the first and second little pigs build a Bar & Grill on the Gulf of Mexico.
Amazing video. I hope that those kids made it to safety.
Well done! Your video says it all. No more wooden pier walkway. Pierside bar and grill reduced to splinters and washed away.
This hurricane will spook many from moving down to Florida so soon. This will hurt Florida real estate values. The UK Daily Mail says hundreds have died.
As an aside... For a pier side grill, the menu has hardly any real fish items. Just some non-local calamari, shrimp and a greasy smoked fish dip. I guess the real menu is alcohol and various junky fried items. With a seaside view.
I hope your video thread stays up. It’s pretty informative as a before, during, and after the hurricane.
Horrible! And those kids are lucky they didn’t get smashed against the pier.
So that’s you on the video? Nice looking couple!
This is our favorite place to visit. Over the years it seemed like it was getting busier and busier. Then Margaritaville started building..
Really sad to see. I hope all made it to safety.
I’ve seen this movie before. There is just no way to appreciate the sheer POWER of Mother Nature, until you’ve seen it.
You know, I’m starting to think that all the Storm Chaser, and Weather Channel coverage is convincing people that it’s “Not THAT bad”. They all cut out before the REALLY bad stuff hits.
Sanibel Island and Fort Myers never stood a chance of survival. ANYONE who lived on 5’ or less elevation and stayed there is LUCKY, IF they are alive.
