I actually did do a few things to prepare for that on the assumption that things designed by humans will fail. Came in handy later when we had an ice storm. :)

But the moment I knew the thing was completely overblown was when I heard one of the "Voices of Doom" (TM) declare somberly that planes would fall out of the sky because the computers would think it was 1900 and "flying had not been invented yet".

What I do remember most about it is my company had to be Y2K compliant so we had to get an entire new ordering and inventory control system. We were a small manufacturing company so having one scratch built was out of the question so the guys in IT jury rigged up one that was based on a point of sale system. And every now and then if you hit the right combination of keys it would pop up a drinks menu.

I had to reprogram a school library system to know th a due date of 2/15/00 was not 1900. But that wasn’t that hard. The manufacturer. Sent a few lines of.code in an email with instructions.

Working in IT, I've heard and/or lived through pretty much every Y2K experience and story, true and apocryphal. But yours is a new one to me, and so I thank you -- you've made my evening.
