Egg Shortage - News To Me
Self | Sept 24, 2021 | FWDude

Posted on 09/24/2022 3:45:07 PM PDT by fwdude

I wasn’t aware of any egg shortage until a sign at my store just informed me. I assumed the prices were rising just because of general inflation, but apparently there is a serious worldwide shortage of hen eggs.

Due to a national egg shortage, costs have increased significantly in recent weeks. We will continue to work with our suppliers to improve availability.

Does anybody have any more news on this or any elaboration?

A lot of the shelves in the egg section were empty for the first time since the plandemic. It was really weird and seems to portend some serious economic event on the horizon.

Iowa will produce around 14-15 billion eggs this year, with several other states at around 10 billion eggs. Egg prices in Iowa grocery stores are down now, easily found less than $2.00 per dozen. Supply and prices elsewhere will follow suit, but note that transport cost is not coming down.

but apparently there is a serious worldwide shortage of egg hens.

Not a chicken vs egg, which one came first thing. The eggs are not fertilized and egg laying hens lay 300+ eggs a year so if there's a shortage of eggs, it's really a shortage of hens. The reason(s) for that, I haven't a clue.

We are getting eight a day... And two duck eggs.

Our cost is $14 every two weeks for feed. Eight Hens and two ducks.

112 Hen’s Eggs & 28 Duck Eggs.

Ten dozen Hen’s eggs

Two and one third dozen Duck Eggs.

Duck eggs cost twice what Hen’s cost.

I love pasture-raised chicken eggs, but it is very labor and cost intensive.

I wish I could clone the hen I have. Don't feed her and she still lays eggs. She's free range too.

I wish I could keep chickens, but don’t have the ability to tend to them every day as they require. Maybe after retirement.

Didn't Biden kill a bunch of chickens due to supply chain issues earlier this year?

I haven’t seen any egg shortage. Just ate a couple of boiled eggs. Still can’t get excited about any “plandemic” or other stories about COVID, either, even though I’ve now had it for the first time for about a week (home test, no hospital, no doctor, no crazy home remedies).

Here in the Los Angeles area, Ralph’s (Kroger) has been completely out the last couple times I checked, in the last 2 weeks. Sprouts Farmers Market still had plenty, but most were the expensive free-range kind. I had mistakenly thought Ralph’s was just having a refrigeration problem, so thanks for bringing the issue to my attention.

I started waterglassing eggs back in April.

Started sampling them yesterday; they’re kinda watery, but good for scrambling.

And I’ve got about 30 dozen.

Should get me through the winter once my hens slow down.

I’m sure I’ve had COVID without knowing it. It’s the only deadly disease you can have with no symptoms.

It’s true!
I was at the grocery yesterday to buy eggs. I checked the carton for broken eggs and darn it, there were two eggs missing.!
So I got different carton since there were plenty to choose from.

Holy heck! I’m getting ready to bake a lot of cookies for a wedding. That Pittsburgh tradition - the wedding cookie table! And wouldn’t you know eggs and butter are either through-the-roof expensive or hard to get! Oh well - my niece is worth it.

I think..

I know they tear up his yard up all year ,LOL

Lot of people thought they'd buy a couple of backyard chickens over the pandemic and take advantage of all them "free" eggs. They found out how expensive free could get.

The imagined spread. Farmers have gone outside the government for testing that has come back negative after being declared positive by the government.
