Shameful ignorance. The 3/5 thing was a census trick to reduce the political power of the slave states. I guess this low IQ fool wanted the slave states to totally dominate US politics prior to the Civil War. Which would probably have meant, no Civil War at all.

Yes!

From the article:

“The Southern slaveholders wanted all slaves counted as people. It was the Northerners who wanted only free people to count! This was because the Northerners didn’t want the slave states to have a larger representation in Congress by counting their ‘property.’”

WILLFUL BIAS & STUPIDITY! People like him KNOW the truth, they also know that this IDIOT SCREED still has wings and nobody at these propaganda outlets will blink at it.

I will not live (I fear) to see the end of this 'victimhood' meme that empowers the LEFT. It is very insidious as being hard to contradict when no one calls it out and there is the history behind it.

DISGUSTING!

An excellent point that is too often ignored. Indeed, the slave states got full credit, so to speak, for purposes of apportionment for all free blacks, which made for an incentive for emancipation. Had slavery died out gradually and peacefully as was thought likely in that era, the 3/5ths clause would have become a dead letter within a generation.

Yet, as Madison's Notes indicate, there was some concern even in the federal convention that the 3/5ths clause was injurious in its phrasing as a contradiction to the equality of all men that the Declaration had endorsed in such ringing terms. In the end though, no better way was suggested to curb the power of the slave states, which was the whole reason for the provision.

Exactly, it was a compromise. The slave states wanted slaves counted just like everyone else, the free states thought they shouldn’t be counted at all, just like ‘non-taxed’ Indians.

I understand why the 3/5ths business is a popular rallying cry for blacks, but it is based on ignorance, likely willful ignorance.
