ROTFL!
“You still can’t pack a lithium battery in your checked luggage,”
When you lead off with a lie ......
In-fu**ing-sane. Truly stupid to use batteries in cars. To use them to power aircraft goes beyond anything I even have words for.
What is turn around time to charge batteries? Once they dump the toilets, pick up the litter, reload the refreshments, and board the passengers, can they still get a 45 minute turnaround to get back in the air?
Flying bricks.
No thanks, I’ll stick with a Piper.
Everything about this article is stupid, from the first line to the last. None of it makes engineering sense.
These planes do not exist and never will exist. Unless there is a quantum leap in battery capacity, the numbers just don’t add up.
The founder of Mesa, L. Risley probably not turning in his grave, but knowing him for over 10 years, and how new tech intrigued him, is probably cheering his old Company on.
Is there any point to this other than virtue signaling to radical greens?
No thanks. I like living.
Just plane stupid. That is all.
Electric commercial transports absent any regeneration on board whatsoever.
Engineering ethics: Just because you can, doesn’t mean that you should.
I would quit before being forced to participate in such an asinine project.
can hardly believe taxpayer-funded “climate all the time” ABC Australia has finally reported some inconvenient truths about lithium-ion battery fires.
note the QFES admission they haven’t been focusing on these fires until now!
note they claim they happen predominantly when they are charging...except for when they are just put in the trash can and get shaken & stirred!
finally, and probably the reason for the article in the first place, there’s the admission lithium-ion may be on the way out!
if they abandon lithium-ion, will the expensive roll-out of electric chargers work with their replacement, or will a whole new set of chargers have be funded worldwide?
17 Sept: ABC Australia: Fears fires caused by lithium-ion batteries will ‘increase considerably’ as popularity of electric scooters rises
By Melanie Vujkovic
There were 46 fires ignited by the common type of batteries in Queensland during the last financial year.
This is the first time statistics specifically listing them as the cause of a blaze have been kept, after Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) crews noticed it becoming more common.
Superintendent Mark Halverson, executive manager of QFES’s safety section, said the number is “increasing rapidly”...
(Ruth Knibbe, a researcher at the University of Queensland’s School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering): “The fires predominantly occur when your battery is charging.”...
Superintendent Halverson said people should also take care when disposing of batteries, whether because they have reached their use-by date or they have been damaged...
Brisbane City Council said over the past three years there had been 28 known instances of garbage trucks having to dump their loads onto the street after catching fire, however the cause of these fires cannot always be determined...
Researchers at the University of Queensland are among teams around the world trying to develop a “faster-charging and more sustainable” aluminium-ion battery alternative...

Once again where is the money for the Grid expansion coming from and all the Copper needed to make it all work?
Then we have all that demand for Lithium, where will all that come from?
Still More #ComDem_Insanity!
Have never heard such a stupid idea.
I’ll believe this when I see it.
On the other hand, once I get my pedal-powered airplane up to scale it will revolutionize green air travel. Image 100 or more people, all happily pedaling along through the skies!
I’m not going first. Are you? May I suggest Biden and Trudeau?
To make the electric planes, is insane.
To purchase electric planes, is insane.
To buy tickets to fly on those planes, is even more insane.
Electric planes....Air Canada....does not compute....don’t lithium batteries loose half their energy in cold weather...not to mention a complete freeze...even Def fluid for diesel trucks freezes in very cold weather. 🥶.
