can hardly believe taxpayer-funded “climate all the time” ABC Australia has finally reported some inconvenient truths about lithium-ion battery fires.

note the QFES admission they haven’t been focusing on these fires until now!

note they claim they happen predominantly when they are charging...except for when they are just put in the trash can and get shaken & stirred!

finally, and probably the reason for the article in the first place, there’s the admission lithium-ion may be on the way out!

if they abandon lithium-ion, will the expensive roll-out of electric chargers work with their replacement, or will a whole new set of chargers have be funded worldwide?

17 Sept: ABC Australia: Fears fires caused by lithium-ion batteries will ‘increase considerably’ as popularity of electric scooters rises
By Melanie Vujkovic
There were 46 fires ignited by the common type of batteries in Queensland during the last financial year.

This is the first time statistics specifically listing them as the cause of a blaze have been kept, after Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) crews noticed it becoming more common.
Superintendent Mark Halverson, executive manager of QFES’s safety section, said the number is “increasing rapidly”...

(Ruth Knibbe, a researcher at the University of Queensland’s School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering): “The fires predominantly occur when your battery is charging.”...

Superintendent Halverson said people should also take care when disposing of batteries, whether because they have reached their use-by date or they have been damaged...
Brisbane City Council said over the past three years there had been 28 known instances of garbage trucks having to dump their loads onto the street after catching fire, however the cause of these fires cannot always be determined...

Researchers at the University of Queensland are among teams around the world trying to develop a “faster-charging and more sustainable” aluminium-ion battery alternative...

“… some inconvenient truths about lithium-ion battery fires.”

Life is not risk free.

There are risks in flying in an aluminum tube filled with jet fuel. And if I’m in the air I do not give a damn about how long the fire will burn after the crash. I’ll be just as dead.
