EV runs out of juice, pushed by coal miners

DC tourist ran out of battery in the middle of a remote West Virginia road on Friday, near a coal mine on Mettiki Coal access road U.S. 48, a few miles outside of Davis, according to WTRF.

From FaceBook:

Randy Smith on Friday Some days are just better than others. Today at our mine off Corridor H an electric car from DC ran out of battery at the road entrance to the mine. Someone called one of our foreman and told him a car was broke down in the middle of our haul road. He went to investigate and found out they had indeed ran out of juice coming from DC to Davis for a get away weekend. He then went back to the mine and got guys to push the car to the guard shack so they could plug in to charge. ... See more

I love thrift shops, too!

I’ve gotten some irreplaceable things at thrift shops, not to mention nice work clothes and shoes as well as just fun things!!

And you’re right: It IS about the hunt and the treasures that we find!

W00t!!

I had to ask her to find the Pi symbol because all she offered was Easy As and a last name. Well, mine is too long even for a 9X12 pan, but since I gave all my glass cookware to my daughter before I moved here, the only thing I kept was the 9” pie plate and a small roaster. I had to buy the small pan because the gal isn’t sure that blue glass can be etched. So we’ll see.

Thanks! I’m sure it will be fun.

“... an agreement that we’d all buy our gifts for each other at thrift shops that year.”

I love that idea! Maybe our family should give that a try this year — something a little different from the norm.

Once I got a 100% suede outfit. Beautiful taupe color. Skirt and sleeveless vest jacket. Tags still on it for a little under $200. Cost me $15.00. (When I lived in Tampa - St. Pete they had the best thrift shops!)

Don’t ask me how much it cost to have it cleaned. 🥴

Buying gifts at thrift shops sounds great! I’ll have to do that. Next time I’m close to a thrift shop. ;o]

Thanks. Pam will be there, so I can share my time between her and the instructor. Others will be there as well, but I don’t know them. That is, I don’t know how to fit the name to a face except for a very few, and only on good days.

They’re going to have brunch before, so that might be different. I’m not sure about staying four hours, but I’ll hang in as long as I can.

I get a buzz off of a good bargain.

Like the time I bought Radio Shack at $5/share?

It’s great! You find unique items, it’s economical and you don’t have to deal with crazy Christmas shopping crowds. Thrift stores are a little busier during the holidays, but nothing like going to a {shudder!} mall or big box store.

I don’t shop at the mall or big box stores. I prefer thrift shops. Period.

But I’ll keep that in mind, for sure! Thanks!

I can’t remember the last time I was in a mall.

And never, ever during the holidays.

I worked part-time at a department store in a mall when I was in college. Christmas season was crazy! Because of that, I avoided malls at Christmas starting in my early 20s.

Before the internet, I did my Christmas shopping at small, independent stores, arty booths at festivals and…thrift shops!

Not really, it was right before they disappeared from the face of the earth. But it WAS a bargain.

Or it looked like one.

Yep. I get it. These days, of course, I prefer to shop online, though if I go to Walmart, I can get some exercise!

Small independent family-owned businesses are usually the best to shop in at any time of year. They usually have the most unique gifts., which I like. And of course, thrift shops!

I like “most of a letter!” I’ll look forward to it arriving next week. Unless of course, you put it down and it gets covered up by something else. Then I’ll look for it in a couple of weeks. ;o]
