That kind of thinking on the part of the Government, both Kingdom and Commonwealth, was probably why the original owners of the gold hid it in the first place

It's conceivable that the author of the "History Blog", naively or not, was less concerned about the politics of owning the collection, but the idea that the coins were all found together in a specific British location—which would be of interest to future historians, coin enthusiasts, and metallurgical research—rather than sold piecemeal around the world.

Just sayin.'
