Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Ginger Cat Appreciation Day, celebrated annually on Sept. 1, was founded by a Wisconsin software engineer in 2014 to pay tribute to his longtime companion.
Chris Roy of Milwaukee founded Ginger Cat Appreciation Day in 2014, after the death of his orange cat, Doobert. Roy had taken care of Doobert ever since finding him as a stray kitten 17 years earlier.
The feline also inspired Roy to found a company called Doobert, which aims to use information technology to match animals in need of care with specialized rescues and volunteer transporters around the country.

It might be a fluke, but I’ve owned two gingers and they had more health issues than all my other cats put together - especially one that had a long-hair background somewhere.

I second that! Currently we have 1 ginger, 1 harlequin calico, 1 three legged cutie and a one-eyed tuxedo cat.
I have a ginger chonk. He’s a heck of a chonk too!
I have 7. 2 calicos, a dilute tortie, brown tabby, blue tabby, flame-point Siamese & an orange & white. Quite the crew. They keep me busy.

Since today is also National Tofu Day, I will celebrate my gingers past and present by avoiding the consumption of tofu.
The more the merrier! Cats get a bad rap. My cats are extremely affectionate and are very good company. Enjoy your menagerie!
One of my rescue kitties named Jupitor (that is the name on his cage when pick up) is a ginger. He is VERY talkative, slow to act but understands spoken commands, albeit it takes hima second to sort through his ‘vocabulary’. He is a very loving cat and greats the UPS, Mail, and FedX people on the front porch, having them set packages next to him at the top of the steps.
I had a ginger kitty Jenkins who, despite having a rough start to life, lived to be 18 years old.
He was the most dog-like cat I ever had.
My daughter was 6 months old when we got him, and as she grew, Jenkins made the switch from “my” cat to “her” cat. While she was off at college, he died before her first final exams. It really wrecked her for a while.
He was the 3rd orange tabby I’ve had, and there SEEMS to be some common personality traits associated with this coloration.
My gingers were very sweet, too. One especially seemed to think he was a dog.
