My heart is heavy. My older brother fell asleep suddenly in the LORD yesterday morning. We are awaiting word on cause of death. He was found could and unresponsive in his chosen place of rest.
The oldest of four siblings, he left his remaining three siblings in mourning, together with a wife and three children, and two fabulous Aussies whom he cherished.
Nicknamed "Clyde" but known as Cboldt to all y'all, he blazed a trail three years ahead of me, excelling in engineering and law. Later in life we would spend hours talking about everything from theology to science and everything in between. I would ask the questions, and he would wax wise. It was his taste in music that exposed me to a wide variety of styles and artists.
Also later in life he became greatly thankful, often and continually expressing wonder at the creation and life's simple blessings. He expressed some disillusionment with his modest material acquisitions and was in the process of arranging their disbursement to his wife and children. He was active in his local parish, helping services continue remotely in the face of prohibitions due to the pandemic.
As of Friday evening/morning he was visiting his younger brother and mother in NC, having determined to stay there as long as it takes to minister to our mother as she is approaching her final days under hospice care. He told me all about the Scripture Readings, Prayers, Hymns, and good cheer spoken aloud at her bedside, and said he had not smiled so long and so hard in all his life.
I was with him Thursday morning when my family left NC for VA to visit elderly father-in-law. He prayed aloud for us as we were leaving. Among the last things we did together, besides reminisce as far back and forward as we could, was sing "Jesus, Thy Blood and Righteousness" and the "Te Deum" at Mom's bedside. I'm afraid the minor shift in the Te Deum had us both sounding poorly when it comes to intonation.
I will miss my brother more than words can say. Those of you who have lost dear ones know what it is like. LORD, have mercy!
You have my deepest sympathy, friend. I have had much pleasant discourse with your brother over the years. I pray the time will come soon that you will think of him and smile at his memory in your heart, and not feel pain.
Sorry to hear. Prayers for you and his family.
Sorry to hear about your brother’s passing He was a blessing to us all

I pray that your family will be comforted by the Holy Spirit. I pray that you will be covered in peace and in love that surpasses all understanding. Your brother is in Paradise and we will meet him there.
OMG I am so sorry to hear this one of my favorite posters!!
I’m so sorry for your loss. It is good that he left you fully exposed to Scripture, hymns, and loving family. That’s the best way.
Beautiful tribute to your older brother. My sincere condolences.
My sympathy. He’s better off not seeing what is coming.
My condolences! Prayers for your brother and all his family.
God have Mercy on his soul and give Peace to those he leaves.
With your mom in hospice and the suicide of your brother I ask God to give you strength to uphold you, wisdom to guide you, and faith to keep you in the Way of Christ.
My sincere sympathy to you. Hang on, Jesus will be coming for his Bride soon.
I’m so sorry to hear this. Cbolt was.one of my favorite FReepers of all time. I first got to known him when we were among the founders of a stop-the-steal chat room over two decades ago.
He was one of the most reasoned FReepers on the board- I ALWAYS read every word when coming across his posts.
He will certainly be missed.
So sorry to hear this.
Prayers for him, you, and the family.
So sorry to hear this.
Cboldt, Clyde, was a good man, a freeper in good standing.
Rest In Peace, young man.
condolences to the family.
I’m sorry for your loss, FC, but feel uplifted in the joy of your family’s last hours together with your mom. Thank you for sharing it with us. I visited your brother’s ‘in forum’ page, and among his last posts was a message of comfort and prayer for a Freeper, who was in terrible distress. In turn, Cboldt’s love for others inspired me to pass it on. I pray, in Jesus’ name, for you and your family.
I had great respect for CBoldt’s posts. Requiem aeternam dona ei, Domine
Et lux perpetua luceat ei
Requiescat in pace.
