Let’s see. Thirteen past and present members of The Cure.
I could hire one skinny chick and call her The Prevention.
Because, you know, one ounce of Prevention is worth a pound of Cure.
Oh, shut up.
No. Not Goth.
Style and presentation-wise, yes. Musically, not so much. Next question.
That show is awesome.
They were just getting started
I can understand reading this on bitnet in 1987 when I was a microVAX II sys admin. I’m a little confused now that it is 2022...
Robert Smith wrote a song about being eaten by a giant spider. That’s pretty goth.
Just watch the south park episode about why the fake vamp kids aren’t real like the original goth kids and you will get it
I still love that he played himself in the South Park episode where he and the boys defeat Mecha Streisand.
They're music is different and it's pretty much all a creation of Robert Smith. Good musicians though and Smith can play the guitar. They're tight musicians live. Still a bit weird though.
.
You don’t seem to understand, for many, once you have been Cured, you remain Cured forver.
I can still hear Robert Smith plucking his ukelele (accompanied by bass) on the long intro to “Pictures Of You”.
Cure was one of those groups where I had to make a decision to ‘forget’ about the way Robert looked onstage and just listen to the music only. He looked mildly bizarre, but then something similar was done in Japan with Kabuki Theater.
Not gonna lie…I was NOT expecting to read an article about The Cure this evening.
Blast from the past! 👍
I remember when they would lump The Cure, Siouxsie, Joy Division, The Smiths, New Order, etc. under the term “Progressive” before the terms “Goth” or “Alternative” were being widely used. They were, without question, one of the best live shows I have ever seen.
All I know is that “Friday I’m in Love” and “Just Like Heaven” always put me in a good mood.
The band does look goth, though.
Cure and Siouxie and the Banshees were punk, came out of the punk scene. Pre-dated so-called goth.
