The SEC has ESPN/Disney and their TV revenue will be less than the BIG
The Big 10-2 or whatever can’t generate $7 billion in revenue in 10 years. It’s just not that hot of a conference.
Their best teams are Ohio state and Michigan, and they get exposed and destroyed anytime they play the SEC.
Good luck (a) figuring out which network is going to be hosting your favorite team's game on any given day, and (b) affording all of the related streaming services.
“The Big Ten Conference media rights agreements are more than just dollars and deals...”
Okay, that might be somewhat true... it's probably 98.9% about the money and 1.1% about other stuff.
Thank goodness they are getting funding from the corrupt fake news and not the Saudi’s like LIV.
I’ve never seen a more overblown industry than professional team sports. It even eclipses Hollyweird.
If it helps break ESPN’s death-grip on college football then it’s a good thing.
I have come to believe that college sports and sports in general should not be big business and an opiate that distracts people from more balanced life. Plus, I can’t stand unsportsmanlike athletes. Whatever happened to the days of just handing over the ball to a ref after a touchdown? It’s much more intimidating to act like you expect to score and it is no big deal.
I’ll still tune into some games, but I won’t pay for cable or the Peacock app. More than likely I will listen to Penn State football on the radio as I work in my shop or around the house. That’s one way to ignore some of the woke BS.
So then why are the Big 10 schools still increasing their Tuition nearly every year?
I, for one, am glad that ESPN is not in this. The only reason I have watched ESPN in the last few years is to watch my team in football and basketball. That was it. Now I won’t have to listen to Dickie V or any of the other obnoxious announcers. But the almighty dollar is ruining college athletics. It’s a shame.
This basically kills the concept of Conferences. There are only going to be two conferences for all intents and purposes: The Big Ten and the SEC. All the other schools will end up joining one or the other.
Wow. That’s a lot of money for a 2nd or 3rd rated football conference.
Since 2010 even the ACC has 3 times (Clemson 2018, 2016, FSU 2013) the number of national champions than the B1G (Ohio State 2014). Not to mention the SEC.
I’m not surprised it has nothing to do with education and everything to do with entertainment and making money. Same for the players that’s all most care about. Its now a very slick money making machine and people will lap it up due to emotional attachments to schools.
it will be strange not having the B10 on ABC/ESPN.
How much college football is NBC going to show, i wonder.
The Big 8 was my favorite “in the day” because of my love of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Followed by the Oklahoma Sooners and Roll Tide. We were upset at the long line of coaches coming and going at Nebraska. Hopes for Scott Frost are shaky …especially in the Big 10. I don’t want a miracle. I just want talent and discipline. (Maybe a little luck like if the referee gives you one more second on the clock to kick a winning field goal when the game is over, after an incomplete pass. And your coach gets to tell the reporter he planned it that way. 🙄 )
Money Money Money. I’m streaming this year.
No matter what, I can’t wait for NCAA football season!!!
God Bless America!
They have the three biggest TV markets, or they will as of 2024.
I want to see Alabama play in the snow.
ESecPN has had bad blood going back to to B1G Network inception. The B1G made more money the last few years as they cut down ESPN affiliation. The bonus is now you won’t get woke or otherwise BS commentary from ESPN. This Network is the model for most conferences going forward.
