Vanity - What Deer Repellents WORK??? Anyone know?
My window ^ | 8/14/2022 | Myself

Posted on 08/14/2022 5:07:03 AM PDT by GaltAdonis

Sunday morning 6:50AM -

Started my day by making a cup of coffee.
The blinds were slightly open - I could see out.
I saw movement out of the corner of my eye -
Not A deer - BUT TWO young does happily munching my tomato plants.

DANG-IT!

In my current locale I am not going to open fire on them
and risk the neighbors calling law enforcement -
discharging a gun HERE is sort of illegal.

"BUT OFFICER, IT WAS SELF DEFENSE! The deer were threatening me!!"

No, no - not going to go there...

So I go out the door and yell: "HEY! GET OUT!!!"

One deer ran away immediately.
The other cocked it head to the side (with a tomato in mouth)
and stared at me.

I begin advancing, while yelling and waving my arms -
the deer drops the tomato, retreats 30 feet, stops at
the edge of the woods - and stares at me.

I advanced again - and the deer runs off to join the other one it the woods.

So - short of firearms/explosives/poisons/20-foot tall fences -
HOW CAN I REPEL THESE INFERNAL BEASTS?

Ideas anybody?

I always thought the plants were too acidic. I read that too.

But if you saw it……you saw it. Eyewitness accounts are great.

I read a story once where there was a small bird nest low enough for deer to reach, pictures included, those deer eat the bird chicks in the nest!
It was crazy. Quite surprising.

Two solutions.....
Get an electric fence. Hang a sheet of aluminum foil on the fence and smear it with peanut butter. The deer lick the peanut butter and get zinged. We had a friend defend an entire lot full of blueberries with just a single strand around the lot.

Otherwise, use a paint ball gun. They don’t like it, and the neighbors won’t hate you.

“Nasty, nasty smelling stuff. Keeps the deer from eating our daylillies.”

And you away from the yard.

Sounds like a human AND deer repellant.

“The urine, when sprayed or sprinkled around plants weekly will prevent them from eating the plants.”

And fertilizers the plants.

Wolf urine. Sold in small bottles. A little goes a long way, I’ve read.

In the summer, there are plenty of other food sources. There should theoretically be no reason for the deer to go after veggies surrounded by fragrant plants.

But then again, they’re deer.

Hanging Irish Spring soap may help.

Hanging reflective items can help.

Old CDs because they move in the wind and reflect give you some chance.

A dog can help.

But there really is no way to keep them away other then fence, dog or death.

They eat things that people swear are deer proof. Ha!

That's cruel and un-usual punishment. How dare you.

First, pee around the perimeter-just make sure you walk backwards. Second, put twigs or bamboo stakes in quantity through out your plants. The deer will avoid poking their eyes.

"...pee around the perimeter-just make sure you walk backwards..."

LOL!

I've started collecting in a old milk jug (with lid).
I don't think my neighbors would appreciate having to
watch me pee on my yard.

But then again - you never know...
