Donald Trump called FBI Director Christopher Wray "the worst member of my administration."
Chris Christie writes in his memoir that Trump blew up at Christie for recommending Wray for the role.
"He's doing an awful job, and he's your pick. He was your pick," Trump told Christie of Wray.
Former President Donald Trump told Chris Christie that FBI Director Christopher Wray was the " worst member " of his administration and blamed Christie for recommending Wray for the role, the former New Jersey governor wrote in his forthcoming memoir.
Christie writes that Trump randomly brought up Wray's job performance while Christie was at the White House helping the president prepare for his first debate with Joe Biden in September 2020.
"Do you want to know who the worst member of my administration is?" Trump asked Christie, according to the book, "Republican Rescue." "Your guy. Your guy Chris Wray. He's the worst."
Christie writes that he urged Trump to hire Wray, a former federal prosecutor, after the president fired former FBI Director James Comey in the spring of 2017. Wray served as Christie's personal attorney during the Bridgegate scandal, which involved the prosecution of Christie's top aides for retaliating against a Democratic mayor by closing lanes on the George Washington bridge. Wray, then in private practice at King & Spalding LLP, charged New Jersey taxpayers $2.1 million for his representation of the governor.
Christie writes that he'd known Wray since he was a United States attorney in New Jersey and that he'd "always been impressed by his intelligence, professionalism, and his work ethic."
The former governor says he defended Wray from Trump's attacks.

I’ll never understand why Trump didn’t fire Wray. The democrats were constantly yelling at Trump that any actions he took regarding the DOJ would be construed as obstruction. Our tragedy is that Trump appears to have believed them.
“It might have been Kushner that kept it from happening.”
Yes, that could be.
Good thing that was before the minkee-pox plannedemic
Great picture of the lard ass, Obama loving socialist faggot. Christie plays on the other side in more ways than one.
“I’ll never understand why Trump didn’t fire Wray. “
Likely because the pantywaist senators told him if he did so they would vote to convict him in an impeachment trial. They got 7 Republicans to vote to convict. Ten more and Trump would have been prohibited from holding any office ever again.
Slim? ROFL
I cant stand Kushner but I will give him credit if he kept Christy out of the VP spot.
In announcing Wray’s appointment, Trump said he was impeccably qualified for the post.
Fat man
Trump shows poor judgment here and an unwillingness to go back and fire these individuals. Sessions, Wray, Ivanka, Kushner, Omarosa even.
No excuses
That advisor was Chief of Staff/RINO Reince Preibus.
I never have been able to get that picture out of my head.
The DOJ is the political brain and nerve center of Fed.gov. And as the power of Fed.gov grows, the DOJ’s power grows even greater.
The KGB served the same function in the Soviet Union.
Thus it is important to have an absolute loyalist as Attorney General, who can also handle the DOJ apparatus. Look at who Presidents have appointed as their AGs over the years. Kennedy appointed his brother. Reagan his old friend Ed Meese. Obama appointed fellow-traveller Holder and then Lynch - and even made sure both were black.
Trump had Sessions foisted upon him by McConnnell. And Sessions betrayed him. After enough damage was done by Russiagate and Mueller, he was given a compromise candidate in Barr.
Both AG and FBI Director are confirmed by the Senate. Trump could appoint anyone he likes, but would McConnell have confirmed him? This is how the deep state operates. And This is how Trump wound up from the start of his Administration, with the treacherous Jeff Sessions, who immediately chained him down for two years with "Russiagate."
“Trump had Sessions foisted upon him by McConnnell. And Sessions betrayed him. After enough damage was done by Russiagate and Mueller, he was given a compromise candidate in Barr.”
You are of course correct, but to be completely fair, Trump had to get an Attorney General candidate through a 51-48 Senate (I can’t remember if Sessions could vote for himself, if so 52-48).
And this Senate at the time included John McCain, Jeff Flake, Lisa Murkowski, Lamar Alexander, Susan Collins, etc.
Then it was 52-48 also when Barr was nominated and the Senate was hardly more conservative after the 2018 elections.
That’s why these current Senate races are so important, so that a REAL attorney general nominee can be confirmed.
True not much to pick from in D.C. to many brown nosing yes men/women and boot lickers looking at the top of the ladder.
It’s what made Trump so good he was an outsider that knew what had to be done he didn’t need the points.
“... the treacherous Jeff Sessions...”
And herein lies a tale? Who would have even known during the campaign in 2016 that Sessions would prove so weak, even suspected of treachery? He was often at Trump rallies being pointed out for praise. How is it possible to know who to trust in this environment?
Most folks who were paying attention at the time knew better than to listen to anything Cristy said. The president really did have some terrible advisors.
“I cant stand Kushner but I will give him credit if he kept Christy out of the VP spot.”
Ditto.
