Donald Trump called FBI Director Christopher Wray "the worst member of my administration."
Chris Christie writes in his memoir that Trump blew up at Christie for recommending Wray for the role.
"He's doing an awful job, and he's your pick. He was your pick," Trump told Christie of Wray.
Former President Donald Trump told Chris Christie that FBI Director Christopher Wray was the " worst member " of his administration and blamed Christie for recommending Wray for the role, the former New Jersey governor wrote in his forthcoming memoir.
Christie writes that Trump randomly brought up Wray's job performance while Christie was at the White House helping the president prepare for his first debate with Joe Biden in September 2020.
"Do you want to know who the worst member of my administration is?" Trump asked Christie, according to the book, "Republican Rescue." "Your guy. Your guy Chris Wray. He's the worst."
Christie writes that he urged Trump to hire Wray, a former federal prosecutor, after the president fired former FBI Director James Comey in the spring of 2017. Wray served as Christie's personal attorney during the Bridgegate scandal, which involved the prosecution of Christie's top aides for retaliating against a Democratic mayor by closing lanes on the George Washington bridge. Wray, then in private practice at King & Spalding LLP, charged New Jersey taxpayers $2.1 million for his representation of the governor.
Christie writes that he'd known Wray since he was a United States attorney in New Jersey and that he'd "always been impressed by his intelligence, professionalism, and his work ethic."
The former governor says he defended Wray from Trump's attacks.

For all the people knocking pence...Chris Christie is who trump wanted as VP..he would have been worse
Trump’s biggest problem is that the pickings were slim.
Not a pleasant picture
Trump staff picks and endorsements are his worst attribute.
Christie deliberately sabotaged Trump.
All trump had to do is what I did when he announced the name...look at the history ..connections..and loyalty.. Wray was clearly a NO after reviewing the Ashcroft hospital drama
But you are correct. The outsider had to pick a lot of insiders and had to rely on people advising him
He’s a crook.
Fault lies with Trump here. What was he thinking, taking ANY advice from Christie? Much less acting on it.
Whatever Christie advised, Trump should have run in the opposite direction.
The biggest flaw President Trump had was trusting advisor's advice on personnel recomendations.
Several times he needed to trot out his watchwords "YOU'RE FIRED"!
“For all the people knocking pence...Chris Christie is who trump wanted as VP..he would have been worse.”
Then Trump must never have asked him, because Crispy Creme would have grabbed that role in a heartbeat. And, yes; he would have been worse...much worse.
Agreed. As a boss, you don’t publicly say things like that about an underlying without firing them. It will come back to haunt you, and in this case, it did.
The thing is then, Trump never could have become President from some help from the GOPe. Now he’s bigger than they are.
Agree.
But at the time it was impossible to know friend from foe.
Now things are much simplified.
NEVER trust a mid Atlantic, New England republitard!!!!
He had a very limited field to choose from.
Not many people know the ins and outs of DC.
Next time he will know better
Why Trump, or anyone else, would listen to anything Fat Bastard had to say, is beyond me. Christie is a bloated, worthless hack.
Thanks for saving me the trouble of posting this once again. I must have posted that picture 20 times. We need to remember who this blob of a human being is.
It might have been Kushner that kept it from happening
But more likely it’s a deal he made with GOP power elites...like Bush was pushed onto Reagan.
