A 400-foot-tall wind turbine in Gloucester suffered a mechanical failure Sunday morning causing one of the turbine’s blades to fall to the ground.

The wind turbine is at Applied Materials on Dory Road in Blackburn Industrial Park. Gloucester Fire Department received a report of the incident at approximately 7 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release.

The fire department and the city are working with Applied Materials to establish an appropriate isolation area around the turbine to ensure the safety of the structure and people around it.

Freakin ridiculous monstrosities. I drive through Massachusetts all the time and see these things and they are NEVER EVER moving! For YEARS, so just what the hell are they doing? They don’t do anything! And i can just imagine what they cost the taxpayers.

Last March, my son and I drove through Oregon to the Columbia River Gorge separating Oregon and Washington and turned east in I-84. There must be 10,000 of the monstrosities installed there. I think we saw maybe ten lazily, barely turning. What a HUGE waste of capital that would otherwise be put to productive uses. Capitalism is incredibly efficient at allocating capital to its most productive uses. This is CRONY capitalism which is akin to communism in that central planners are making horrible capital deployment decisions.

The only reasons these “work” (i.e., make money for the owners and manufacturers) are 1) tax subsidies and 2) they don’t produce much of the nation’s power. The rest of the conventional power system is available to cover for these infernal machines when the wind doesn’t blow. You also need large rotating masses to regulate the grid to 60 Hz. The generators on wind machines are too small to do that.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen any windmill actually turn and this is from years of seeing them. It is a total scam.

I hate them. They always seem to be build in the most scenic places possible. No wonder anytime you see leftists promoting them, it is always a cheap artist rendition, usually all in green, of a wind mill on some hill.

They never show how much they ruin some scenic mountain view. However, don’t you dare consider building a low-profile 100ft cell tower, you run the beauty of said mountain. Just build a 500ft tall tower with three massive blades.

I think the same thing happened a little while back someplace else.

It don’t matter to the greenies if they don’t work. All they care is green power is SUBSIDIZED with tax payer money.

While 40% of world’s population in China & India are building 100+ new coal fired power plants for cheap energy.

This green power push is punishing US manufacturing by making it more difficult to compete with low wage countries. Abundant cheap power was the strong base for American manufacturing. It is now gone. But greenies don’t care.

More workers have died from working on windmills than all deaths in nuclear power accidents.

I remember that. How much pollution was released from the toxic burning windmill vs clean nuclear energy?

PETA is nowhere to be found on the killing of birds by windmills. Shocking.

These damn windmills are a blight on our beautiful American landscape. Solar farms too.

Our corrupt governor here in Maine (Janet Mills, Demonrat Farmington) who is up for re-election this November has been subsidizing windmills and solar “farms” at the taxpayers’ expense and they are now all over the state, especially the solar farms. In a state where the number one industry is tourism.
]
Maine is the most heavily wooded state in the country and vast number of trees have been cut down to build these monstrosities. The tops of hills and mountains are clear cut to accommodate the so-called windmills.

Paul LePage served as governor from 2010-2014. Term-limited out, he is running for re-election this November. Can’t wait to vote for him.

His energy advisor has said that a windmill, when turning, produces 3 megawatts per hour. He also stated that a gas turbine produces 45 megawatts an hour.

How many gallons of oil does it take to lubricate one large wind generator? Hundreds?

I saw a story on the news several years ago.

Witnesses in England said that a windmill over there was struck by a UFO.

An elderly woman was being interviewed, and in the background was the windmill.

It was no longer turning; one blade was all twisted and the center portion was belching smoke.

Even ET hates these damn things!

Doesn't deforestation contribute to climate change? The climate zealots want it both ways.

Same in parts of CT and MA. Some beautiful scenery that was once farms, trees or pristine mountain tops now cleared and covered in solar panels or windmills.
