I've seen and heard of cases where the dogs are right back to wagging their tail after mauling/killing, almost like they expect to be praised for what they did. But that's after. They are almost impossible to stop once the attack is in progress. I stopped a pit from attacking my daughter, and once I got the dog away from her, it was right back to being sweet.
Most dog bites are a warning. A quick bite. It's warning to step back, a territorial response, protecting the family, a puppy or their food. Pits are not warning you. They are trying to kill you.
One pit bull ... one 9mm ... problem solved.
I seem to remember not too long ago when a former Freeper named “Chet” or something similar was constantly brought up as being an anti-pitbull person and ridiculed. That seems to have changed over the last several years now that people have noticed how dangerous these dogs truly are.
Poor “Chet” they sent the ‘Kities’ with a rope for him. At one time there was a very powerful pro Pitty ‘Mafia’ here.
Most of Chet’s posts were useful and interesting although he could be a little too obsessive, but FR had a sizable pro-pitbull cheering section that were very hard nosed and rabid with the defense of the dogs so it could get nasty.
The facts haven’t changed about the dogs, but their supporters are more subdued and many have probably changed their minds.

As they teach in every service academy and military war college, never focus on the intent. Focus on the CAPABILITIES.
Intents can change overnight, but capabilities are innate characteristics that are not subsequent to sudden or extreme changes.

Seems like the male owners have them as a statement “I have a bad a$$ dog” and women are being “woke” by owning “sweet pitties”.
You can put onesies and little flower crowns on them all you want but I won’t get near one.
Other than my normal career I teach scent detection for dogs/handlers. When someone brings a pit I have all the other students crate their dogs while the pit is out, rather than just be 20’ feet away on lead.
I’m going to be contrarian and say it IS really rare for a pit or pit mix to attack the owner or close family member.
Usually what happens is a neighborhood kid gets it.
Pits and pit mixes are 5% of the dog population but account for more than 50% of human deaths
This I definitely agree with in many cases. Some male pitt bull owners definitely give the vibe that they like that you are intimidated by their dog. In college I lived in the hood. The projects were down the street, there was a crack house across from my rental house and I had a guy stick a gun in my gut once walking down the street but the other guy he was with stopped him and told me to walk away. I tell you this so you understand that this was an authentic ghetto experience.
Everyone there who owned a dog - all of them - had either a rottweiler or a pitt bull and they were all kept off leash and allowed to wander. The owners definitely liked that people would back away from them. I don't think that's limited to just the men in the hood.

No criticism of Pitties is allowed. They are the bestest dogs in the world, and are all out saving babies from burning buildings. All those stories about Pitties going bad are just anti-breed propaganda lies!
