El Dorado was pretty much the remake. Rio Bravo was the original with Ricky Nelson

I know it’s only a supporting role, but I enjoyed Caan in Elf which is hard for me to watch today because of Will Ferrell’s politics. RIP.

Yes, he did a great job in El Dorado.
He later said that John Wayne was great to work with and taught him a lot.

RIP. I’ve had some interactions with his son Scott in the early 2000’s.

I beg to differ Dawg FRiend.
Do a search. The exact quote from Marlon Brando(Vito Corleone) was:
“Look how they massacred my boy”

Oh, No! Not Santino! (Sonny Corleone)
Caan has delivered some remarkable performances through the years. A filmography that anyone would be proud to have made.

One of many big stars in, “A Bridge Too Far,” but for me, one of his most memorable performances as an NCO going the distance for the life of his captain - based on the real story of Charles Dohun.

“I remember that role; it was played by Ricky Nelson in the remake and Ricky was “Colorado”. I believe James Caan was a Trump supporter.”
According to Wikipedia Caan described himself as an ultraconservative and supported Trump in 2016.
In the remake of El Dorado and Rio Bravo, the role was filled by Chris Mitchum, Robert’s son.
