“Look what they did to my boy” is the actual quote, but I get the sentiment.

This is from the screenplay

VITO CORLONE

I want you to use all your powers and all your skills. I don't want his mother to see him this way...
(After the Don uncovers the blanket, revealing Sonny's mangled face, shaken)
Look how the massacred my boy...

I had seen a picture of him in a wheelchair about a year ago. He looked really thin.

I remember him also in the 1991 Bette flick “For the Boys”. Saw that on a night when a big snowstorm hit my hometown and it was only me and a few others in the movie theatre for the show, lol.

My wife has an old friend that did a few famous people in her day. Supposedly Caan was one of them. I think she bragged that Payne Stewart was another, not sure about that one..

Seems like you could set that to some hip hop music.

One of Caan’s earlier roles was in the film ‘El Dorado’ directed by Howard Hawks (pretty much a remake of ‘Rio Bravo’). According to Hawks, Caan wanted his character to be serious and dangerous, which wasn’t what Hawks had in mind. Hawks said he didn’t have to tell Caan to lighten up because the more serious Caan tried to act, the funnier it got. Caan had plenty of dark, dangerouse roles later on (see ‘Thief’, a sadly overlooked film) and he was great in a lot of those roles.

Lady in a Cage was wild. Hard to believe it was made in 1963.

One of my favorites. He had a certain sexiness to him, even into his later years. I crushed on him in my 20’s and 30’s.
Heard he was a solid conservative also.

One of my faves - The Gambler was his best IMHO.

Loved him in “Killer Elite” With Robert Duval, Arthur Hill, Bo Hopkins, Mako, and Burt Young.

It was directed by Sam Peckinpah, so yeah, a lot of gunfights.

Caan got the nickname ‘Jewish Cowboy’ from his ‘El Dorado’ role.

He starred in the movie ‘Holy Lands’ within the last couple years.

He played an American Jew who moves to Israel to raise pigs.

Wow! You are the first mention of that famous flick that I’ve seen. Even Variety didn’t have it! I guess we can all have a James Caan film fest this weekend.

My brother loved How Green was my Valley! And that showing of Captains Courageous was unique in my experience, I’ve never been in an audience so overcome by pure emotion. And think of it, the movie was probably 30 years old. My friend and I were kids, but I bet most of the people there had seen it several times. Life is short, Art is long.
