A woman who volunteered in an American abortion clinic has told how she was called a ‘witch’ and ‘cheerleader for Satan’ by pro-life campaigners, who made her feel like an 'outcast' in her community before she left for Britain five years ago.
Annie Smith, 23, helped at the centre with her mother near Memphis, Tennessee, around six years ago despite all her school friends having strong anti-abortion views.
Pro-lifers would often come to the clinic and ridicule Annie - who now lives in the UK, but fears for her siblings living in America - outside of her workplace.
The 1973 Roe v Wade ruling was overturned after a five to four Supreme Court decision on Friday. This will make abortion illegal or severely restricted in almost half of US states.
Speaking to FEMAIL, Annie said: ‘Working there was not something I advertised because I knew so many people around me were anti-abortion. I felt isolated among people at my high school and my friends.
‘But I do remember there was one day where all these people came chanting “you’re going to hell”.
‘Parents and kids that were about seven-years-old saying I was a “cheerleader of Satan” and I was a “witch”. It was awful to see,’ she said.
Since Annie moved to London, she has felt more comfortable talking about her pro-choice beliefs and shares them on social media.

What I mean is when we got volunteers at the hospital it was usually for the purpose of ones who were acquainting themselves with the medical field, hopefully to become known to the ones who might hire them in the future when their schooling was done. They’d volunteer during the summer when not in class, intending on becoming nurses or something to do in the medical field.
Or ones who were retired looking to fill their time with something that made them feel a part of society.
This girl was only 23 years old. Was she in some sort of schooling? What were her reasons to want to volunteer in an abortion clinic?
Obviously the mother played a large role in forming the daughters opinion. We are all a product of our upbringing. Calling her a witch and cheerleader for satan isn’t going to change her heart. Quite the opposite. I no longer find any humor in the jokes because there are folks here that given the power would hang anyone the deemed a bad guy or ‘deep state’, without trial, or would drown or burn ‘witches’ - Used to be the fringe, but they’re expanding.
These abortion places do indeed have volunteers. Ours has or did have “escorts” with special vests to herd them through any picketers or sidewalk counselors.
Sounds like a drama queen to me
She was most likely a clinic escort out side the of joint.
Thanks. Did not know that.
Well, there are less of these places to volunteer in now :)
It’s a fair cop
You do realize the left is much, much worse. They have shot at Congressman, hitting one nearly killing him, with little to no condemnation from the media or Congress? Do you know the left has caused millions of dollars in damage over the last several years, due to rioting? Do you know they have assaulted people and killed some at various “protests”?
There is no comparison between keyboard warriors here, and actual terrorists on the left who do more than joke and talk.
I don’t care about the left, they are a lost cause. I do care about what is happening with conservatives and where we are heading.
The internet has probably been culled of her goth and pentagram tattoo photos.
Oh, good grief. What a self-absorbed drama queen.
And that is *not* why she “fled” to the U.K. I’m sure there were other reasons she went there and she’s using this to get attention.
If she “fled” because people were calling her names, she could have just gone somewhere like San Francisco, Portland or Seattle.
Glad they never us names.
Glad they never CALL us names.
”Well, we did do the nose.”
And?
...if it floats like a duck.
Whaaaaaaaaaah. She left the country and it was all the fault of those other guys.
😜
I don’t see the problem here...maybe it’s just me
Dittoes. They said the truth, and she heard them. Not really sure that’s a problem anywhere but her conscience.
