No one would work minimum wage jobs if they were not subsidized by government. The profits of Walmart and other corporations come largely from the fact there workforce is subsidized by the welfare state. Companies should be paying their own workforces not pocketing profits that only exist from the fact their employees are being supported by the taxpayers.
Who actually benefits from this? This is something I think the left and right should agree on. The left hates billionaire corporations and the right hates the welfare state and wasteful spending. Subsidizing Walmart workers costs the US taxpayers about 8 billion dollars a year, while the Walmart profit is 13 billion.
I’m not sure the exact solution but it is ridiculous that taxpayers are subsidizing the workforce of a large corporation while the government is running massive deficits and there are homeless disabled vets on the streets. Those jobs and workers only can exist due to government subsidies.
This is corporate socialism in action.
Its you expecting to buy a house and raise a family with your burger flipping job thats the problem, not McDonalds.
Maybe people should look at those min wage jobs as starter positions instead and aspire to something a little higher.
Walmart and other big corporations are the easiest to verify the information from.
Are you saying that it is not corporate socialism to subsidize the wages of a workforce with taxpayer money? Do you not take an issue with it? This should not be happening.
Those Mexican avacados are owned by the drug cartels now. They thank you for helping them launder their drug money.
Polish vodka?
SALUT!!
Who expects that? I take issue with a corporation’s workforce being subsidized by taxpayers money.
Remove welfare and those jobs would not exist and employee theft would skyrocket.
Mostly we get Avocados from California - but the drug cartels own that state now too, don’t they? ;)
>>Are you talking about people that are ON welfare, but also work for Walmart?<<
If you are an adult working minimum wage, you are eligible for several means-tested benefits like food stamps (eligible if annual income under $16,752) Medicaid (eligible if under $18,075) and quite a number of other benefits.
I like your libertarian sentiments, but, you are seeking common agreement and ideological purity, while the left will respond with a political power play
Something like - “Yes, government welfare is subsidizing these firms, which means we need to unionize all Walmart and Amazon employees, increase the national minimum wage to $25/hour, and raise taxes on these companies.”
Do you have any verifiable data to back that up?
I know Walmart STARTING pay is $16.40/hr
Plus health ins plus in store discounts plus help to go to college
PLUS that is starting pay. If you show up work hard you get raises and promotions
Most big box retailers are the same
I don’t care about anecdotal stories, why is it that Walmart workers cost taxpayers close to 9 billions each year and what should be done about it?
They might as well.
You know what, the cartels could probably do a better job than the Califormunists are doing.
They couldn’t do much worse.☹️
Me, I own many properties. Not expecting anything from Macdonalds except to not get food poisoning the rare times I eat there.
Business has been using the government to suppress wages for generations.
I think you know this, so I won’t bother with the details.
I’ve been saying this for years.
Verizon loves the Obamaphone
Walmart loves the EBT card.
Landlords love the Section 8 housing (as do the construction, legal, appliances, etc. industries that go into the building & maintenance thereof)
It’s a guaranteed government paycheck for them
What’s unique about walmart here? Plenty of folks on the dole in one form or another.
Government should be entirely out of the charity business.
Don’t forget the biggest most egregious example, the American higher education system.
you haz weird smell, like ozone...
Yep.
This has been going on for years. Forty years ago, my neighbor paid her greenhouse employees just right up to the line where they could still collect welfare.
If everyone was required to work 40 hours/wk before being eligible for assistance they’d be too tired to cause trouble anywhere else.
A fair tax would allow everyone to fire their tax preparers.
“I don’t know why Walmart is brought up. Their starting pay is $15/hr.”
Also, after 90 days, their health insurance was one of the best for patients/workers in this area.
We no longer buy groceries from Walmart and then pick them up at the local store.
Their computer program is terrible to use on the user end.
Also, you didn’t know if items were shorted until you got home and checked that printout.
Costco lets us know when they are out of an item often before we order by “noting not in store” or when we try to order that item.
Several years ago, I read that walmart has training material that helps employees get on various ‘benefits’ programs like food stamps.
