Joanna Jones, 39, was flying to London from Antigua when her 14-year-old daughter Poppy needed oxygen and two EpiPen shots during the nightmare eight-hour flight after suffering a severe reaction to the nuts.

As Poppy's condition worsened, a quick-thinking nurse on board dashed to help - while the captain considered making an emergency landing.

Eventually the pilot landed the plane safely at Gatwick and Poppy was rushed to hospital.

Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, Joanna said: ’It was a nightmare for all of us and I really thought she might die.

I don’t fly, but I thought that peanuts had been banned from flights for years now.

This appears to have something to do with it. Not only are Drs now vaccine crazy (just look up the vaccine schedule for kids age 0 to 3 years), but they switched the way they produce vaccines some time in the 80s.

IIRC, they used to be produced with mineral oil, then made a switch to “purified” peanut oil.

That is about when peanut allergies got super sized. Related? The FDA and CDC say no..........

Anyone that sensitive needs to stay the hell away from other people. This entire incident should be on her and her mother.

Okay, and the parent should know that and not unduly expose their child to dangerous situations. Why place the health of your child in the hands of 100s of strangers?

I often wonder if this was the reason why I developed an allergy. I’ve often tried to see what other factors people who also have it have in common. I noticed anecdotally that Caesarian sections and premature births are more common from the people I talked to. My twin didn’t get the allergy though, so who knows?

That girl has no business flying. And it’s her mom’s fault for not feeding her peanut butter sandwiches when she was little. And where the hell was her epipen?

I admit to having an anaphylactic allergy to a different kind of nut but I don’t have the ability to see people eating nuts 10 rows from me on planes. So I’m a goner.

‘Not understanding at all these armchair doctors dismissing the almost-death of a child due to her allergy.”

Well, to the ignorant, everything is a conspiracy or a lie.

There seem to be a pretty significant number of Freepers who don’t believe peanut allergies exist or don’t know how severe peanut (and other allergies) can be. Discouraging to see the reactions to what could have been a tragedy.

This sort of sensitivity, I’ve heard, is possible. But if one is that sensitive to it then they need to live in a bubble.

This kid made it this far with this issue.. but it was seriously only a matter of time before someone somewhere screwed up and she died from the mere smell of it. She shouldn’t be in public.

My friend has an allergy to Onions that is similar to this. IF he even smells onions he has to run in the opposite direction. Just the odor is enough to set off the problem. And he could die.

While onions aren’t a problem on planes, he won’t get on a plane becuase then he will be locked into the space with no escape. He doesn’t go into restaurants or produce aisles either. I’ve even stopped growing onions in the hydroponics because it does pose a risk to him if he visits.

It makes no sense but allergies like this are possible. For that sufferer to get on a plane also doesn’t make sense.

I was a flight attendant and we have had to remove all peanuts prior to the flight, announcements were made and we never had an issue with some asshole putting someone’s life in danger.

Anyone that sensitive to peanut odor is putting their own life in danger. This is like sailing on a lake of gasoline while trying to light a cigarette.

The woman should not have put her daughter on a flight where the chance exists that she may be exposed to peanuts.

The smell of a peanut from at least 25 feet away? BS... psychosomatic or just drama.

I can only imagine the peanuts underneath the seats or in the cushions from previous flights. What if someone had been eating peanuts on the prior flight in the seat the child was sitting?
