It’s not that I doubt vaxx injuries are at work, but it would help to know more about these 16 and how many hospitalizations occur as the result of similar races in similar conditions.
There are always going to be a couple of people who trip and perhaps get a compound fracture and a couple of people who have bad asthma or really shouldn’t have been running because they aren’t conditioned enough for the race.
Races are often run in hot weather. How frequently does heatstroke occur?
Hopefully someone comes along and writes an article contextualizing this.

Before you run a 26 mile race, you train for months, with your longest runs in the weeks preceding to be at least 19 miles.
It was cool weather.
People with “bad asthma” don’t run marathons, much less train for them.
It’s something else.

That’s EXCELLENT running weather and not near heat stroke temps.
Additionally, there are free water stations and Gatorade every mile or so. This isn’t dehydration either.
For the most part, only VERY healthy people run such a race.
and...AND...one has to qualify to be able to participate. In other words these are the top runners in the nation.
You have to be fast and have to prove it with times from other races.
These are elite runners, not rookies.
They have strong athletic bodies with high VO2
