But the facts remain
As a participant of over 10 marathons including Boston, NY, and multiple in Chicago, I can tell you over the past 20 years they have become 26 mile walks for a large number of participants. So there is a remote possibility of “overdoing it” to the extent you could have a cardiac event.
I never finished slower than 4:15 and best was 3:35 which qualified me for Boston. Outside of Boston, many marathons will see finishers in the 6 hour plus range. It’s ridiculous to say you’ve “run” a marathon at that pace.
Age has caught up with me, but I still run to the refrigerator and the bathroom.
And you’re right - lots of training and 20 milers a couple times within weeks of the event.
