Was that the Shingrix, I don’t know what year it came out.
I had an arm reaction to the older one, but haven’t ruled out getting this one.

Has that been verified by an MD?

53 here...got Shingles last Summer. It really sucks. It felt like I had a spear straight through my abdomen for several months. I still get phantom pains.

They say stress or underlying health issues most commonly bring this on. Since I wasn’t under particular stress at the time, my PA ran the full workup. That exam showed perfect numbers across the board.

Coincidentally, I had a slew of Covid-vaxed family members visiting at that time. My wife also had severe menstrual issues while they were all visiting. Her symptoms cleared after they left and returned again when her vaxed mother returned 6 months later.

For me Zostavax is a non-starter since it uses fetal cells in production. Supposedly GSK’s Shingrix doesn’t, but it has greater side effects in us older folks. Now that I’ve had it, I’m not getting the vaccine either way.

“Shingrix is a zoster vaccine developed by GlaxoSmithKline that was approved in the United States in October 2017”

Sounds like it may have been the older vax

there is a murky area with the MTHFR genetic variations and the affect on vaccines.

I have two of the more common variations plus a few others. I had a bad reaction to a vax. So therefore, I am scared to get this shot.

so if you have your 23andme dna you can go in and look at your possible variations. Their analysis in a small portion of your gene.

I looked at the ones mentioned in that article..sure enough..variations popped up in the IRF1 including marker rs839

Now what does that mean for other vaccines since that article is small pox. who knows.

But I still have ear ringing brought on by another vaccine

Heavy doses of lysine will help with shingles. Just don’t quit taking it after the shingles appear to have ceased. Take it for about 4 more weeks.

I have read of increased cases of shingles in women who have received the COVID vaccines.

Ugh....I had a severe reaction to the smallpox vax as a child. Have always been super sensitive to vaccines in general

I conflicted about this one

No matter how afraid of vaccines one is, this is the one you need to get. Shingles is about the worst thing that can happen to you.

I am 59.
I got my first shingles vaccine in December 2019. I got it the same day as a Flu vaccine and a tetanus booster. My Dr said I would probably not feel so well the next day. He was correct.

I got the second in March 2020. Based on my previous reaction I took it on a Friday afternoon. I felt like total crap the next day. It hurt to move. I never left the couch on Saturday.
On Sunday about the only thing I had energy was to go to church with my wife. She drove.
My shoulder was soar for several days. FYI, I am NOT vaxed for covid. Hard pass.

Got a shingles shot and got shingles. Two years later got a flu shot got and got shingles. Two years later another flu shot and I got welts all over my bod for two weeks. No issues like those before the shots.

PS: I found acyclovir effective against shingles if used aggressively.

So you only want positive comments about a post on your medical activity?

Sure. What else would a self-absorbed hypochondriac want?

“Shingles is about the worst thing that can happen to you.”

Had a bout of it a few years ago. Miserable.... undeniably so.
Once you “touched” the area that started tingling/itching, that’s all she wrote as it was breakout time. Took about three weeks or so before relief was granted.

Vaccine..... what’s the point now that I’ve already beat it back.

Worst thing that can happen to you.... not even close. Try losing a child then get back with me.

sounds like you have a genetic quirk.

dont expect any Dr to understand how your genes may be affecting your reaction to a vax. Most are clueless.

You might have the more severe MTHFR genetic variation.

You might want to look into how that affects people to see if it sounds familiar. You will find a wide variety of opinions.

I have the “common” version and do have high homocysteine...and yeah..they dont know what to do about that either or if it is the cause of some of the weirdness going on with me.

Getting this vax will be a crapshoot for me

**If you are one of those people who are afraid of vaccines,**

A few years ago I wasn’t, then my very healthy wife got a flu vax in 2013 to satisfy her employer, and it appears to have given her neuropathy. And since we have seen the dishonesty of Bigguv and Bigpharma, in lockstep with billionaire globaleestas, no wonder people are afraid.

We have a right to express our views. This vaccine is a new one using “recombinant DNA” technology. As of November 20th, 2020, the old vaccine can no longer be used in the USA. Interesting timing. Before I knew what I was getting into, I had the first of the two doses in November, 2021. The pain at the injection site was far worse and longer lasting than with the previous vaccine. I don’t trust it.

I got my second shingles shot earlier this year. No bad reaction other than a sore shoulder. I don’t think I paid anything for it.

I’m not afraid of vaccines but I’m certainly not getting the covid vaccine as I’m thinking it will give me too many blood clots. I’ve had 8 clots in the last 14 years as my body can’t fight clots. I guess I’m special. :-)
