For decades, Russia has been the world's second most powerful military. Today, it is the second most powerful military inside Ukraine.
How in the world did a nation with such a significant military overmatch get into a quagmire against a much weaker power?
Just what is wrong with the Russian military?
#39. I have no idea how I screwed that up. Stuff happens. :)
They're on the Internet.
Putin is probably asking himself that question several times a day.
He was lied to about Ukraine, his own military, the state of his reserves...
Why would he believe what he has been told about Russia's nukes...
Or, maybe, he has been told they are unreliable...
#37. Good insights, thanks.
I have a Russian friend who immigrated in the late 1980's. He started as a janitor and is now working as a PhD in Cancer research at a prestigious school.
I asked why he left Russia, as an adult with a PhD. He said:
"I wanted to live in a country where I did not have to lie every day just to exist."
“The hardware was not bad in some cases, not as good as ours in all cases, but adequate and somewhat capable in the hands of people who knew how to use it.”
A classic example off this is the AK47 vs the M16.
The AK47 was not nearly as well engineered weapon as the M16 but proved to be a much more reliable weapon especially in some environments.
So what would happen if they launched a nuke or two and it fizzled?
Not so much anymore. Or perhaps I should say, Western culture becomes less Western every day.
* In Western culture there is 'truth' and 'lie'.
Again, not so much. People increasingly talk of "my truth" or even "my emotional truth." Objective truth is patriarchal white supremacy.
* Russian social hierarchies are based on fear and status. Merit is always secondary. Bullying is common even among adults in workplaces.
Woke Culture. Cancel Culture. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion over merit. Antifa and BLM bullies.
* In Russian culture intellectualism is seen as very undesirable.
We pay lip service to intellectualism, but instead reward correct opinions.
Because they are not in Kyiv. Man, you PutlerLovers\Reptilian are taking over the world conspiracy theory dummies are dense.
What are the Urkrainian army casualties to date?
China is obscured a lot though so no real telling.
Don’t necessarily disagree but they might surprise us and they have a lot of unmarriageable men who may be motivated.
yep, even 5% of their shit hitting targets would make life miserable for hundreds of years and I am fully convinced the only ppl who want to chance it are themselves miserable with nothing much to live for
I think drones have changed the way wars are fought from now on. I hope we are paying attention.
The beauty of Trump is that he pulled the curtain back on these kind of grifts.
Modern ground warfare will have to undergo substantial change in the next twenty years. Wheeled and tracked vehicles are now sitting ducks. The same can be said of ships at sea. Planes do not need human crews. Thus, the next twenty years must see a move to enhanced robotics.
I feel certain that Taiwan is studying closely the war in Ukraine. As each day passes its invasion seems less likely.
“I wanted to live in a country where I did not have to lie every day just to exist.”
Dalrymple had Russian society nailed. It’s all lies. All of it.
L
Yup....
At least not as we or the British have them.
And the NCOs are the backbone of our military. No officer around? Your NCO will know what to do.
No officer around in most of the world's military? Everything stops.
