Some of us remember longhorn cheese, which was a half-moon shaped piece of cheddar. Hard to find nowadays…people prefer pre shredded cheese.
There was also the shrink wrapped chunks of chocolate that were sold in the produce section-mostly was made by Ghirardelli’s.

Proper mortadella has black pepper corns while in it. The pistachio and other nuts are an Italian American thing in the mother country black pepper corns is the proper way with big chunks of whole day at least 15% or more by volume.

I grew up in the 50s and the only thing we had that was actually shown in the video was meatloaf. My mother never made any of those Jello mold foodstuffs I can recall. About the weirdest thing she made I didn’t like was liver and onions.

I didn’t think much of the video. Like they were just looking for something to bitch about the 50s.

I think the videographers ought to go take a swing through a supermarket today and concentrate ONLY on the milk case and all the crazy milk variety/substitutes people fall for today. I was in the market yesterday trying to get some half and half and it took 5 minutes to find some amongst the wheat/oat/almond/lactose-free/skim/%s/plant-based/goat/buffalo milk......

This guy started on TikTok and is on YouTube. He cooks old recipes, many from World War II and tastes them.

He is very entertaining.
