Don’t want to eat red and then they mistake the jello residue for blood!
bump
That is one of my favorites! That and prosciutto with some provolone on some fresh baked bread :)
“Mom’s was Betty Crocker. I have one also.”
Wife has one not sure where from and how old but we have moved it to a 3 ring binder as cover was in bad shape. Also have an old Good House Keeping cookbook. Both are very very good for basic cooking if you don’t have a clue to start with, even if you know how to cook they are good for basic recipes and things you have not tried in awhile.
For those posting about government actual food commodities, many years ago I wound up in a spot where people would give them to me (I was not signed up for the program). They would eat the “easy stuff” like canned meat, cheese and peanut butter but did/would not go to the trouble to use the flour, molasses and other basic stuff that required actual cooking. I learned to cook some nice fod from that.
My kids love SOS because Grandpa and Grandma made it a lot. We’d usually have it on toast but over baked potatoes would make it extra filling. Great idea!
and wax lips you could eat. I’m not sure how that works. “
The wax lips were full of flavor and sugar. You chewed them until all the goodie was gone and spit out the leftover wax.
The nicotine was a contributing factor to energy and metabolism....
I recall having fried squirrel many a Saturday evening after Dad, Brother and I got back from a mid-day hunt.
Mom had a bowl of egg and a bowl of flower/salt/pepper to bread the chunks of squirrel before dropping them in a pot of sizzling hot Crisco.
Mashed potatoes, bread and gravy on the side.
We ate till we were stuffed.
.
I actually like liver and onions. Can't find liver at the meat counter anymore.
I get ya....but your body has to tell you that you actually want it, IMO.....and NEVER eat it without plenty of onions. :0)
And bacon! My mom would make me liver and onions and bacon in high school every week for ski racing (the iron was supposed to increase oxygen supply. Regardless - I loved it. I’ve had it later in life and it doesn’t taste as good. Not sure why. Although my mom made it in thin slices and very well done - so that is probably it.
Had a friend who loves squirrel brains. Me, I’ll pass.
