Oklahoma abortion clinics turn patients away under new ban — a glimpse into a post-Roe future
NBC NEWS ^ | May 7, 2022 | Aria Bendix

An Oklahoma law went into effect Tuesday, banning abortions after about six weeks, a day after a leaked draft of a Supreme Court opinion indicates the likely end of Roe v. Wade.

On Wednesday morning, Andrea Gallegos answered a call from a patient who was running late for her appointment at the Tulsa Women’s Clinic, one of four abortion clinics in Oklahoma.

But Gallegos, the clinic's executive administrator, quickly realized that the woman had missed a message left for her the night before. On Tuesday, Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt signed a law banning abortions after the detection of cardiac activity, which usually occurs around six weeks into a pregnancy.

"Unfortunately, I had to explain, 'I’m so sorry ... but you know, this law just passed,'" Gallegos said.

The woman guessed she was seven or eight weeks along.

"She said, 'You know, I was raped, I’m pregnant because I was raped. Surely you can still help me.' And I had to explain that unfortunately, this law makes no exception for rape or incest."

The only exceptions to Oklahoma's new law are for situations in which the mother’s life is in danger.

The legislation copies a similar law in Texas, which took effect in September. It allows private citizens to sue anyone who provides abortion care or helps someone obtain an abortion, and receive $10,000 for each suit that succeeds. Because it doesn't empower the state to enforce the abortion ban, the policy skirts protections afforded under Roe v. Wade, the ruling that established the constitutional right to abortion. The Supreme Court declined to block the Texas law, although it allowed state-level lawsuits to proceed.

Metmom I am usually the first to defend a rape victim. I go to great lengths to do so.

Why is it in this one case I don’t believe it? Is it because it’s NBC reporting? It’s about abortion? Maybe the whole thing was made up?

It smelled like bull shit when I read it.

I’m sure they’ll figure a way to still get to their killing.

Me, too.

I have some unprintable opinions on what should happen to rapists, but we’ve entered a time when accusations of rape are thrown around so willy nilly, that it’s difficult to take most of them seriously, especially when it’s clear there’s some ulterior motive for doing so.

In the old days, there was so much shame about being pregnant out of wedlock. Now, it’s such an antiquated notion, it’s almost preferable to be single and pregnant. Sometimes, a person might be in her 20s or 30s and even create a story that the father whose name is on her birth certificate is not her biological father, that she might well be the product of her mother’s dalliance with someone else because she bears a resemblance to that someone’s daughter by his legal wife. It’s a freewheeling ‘morality’ we’ve embraced.

In the case of rape, I understand how awful it must be to find out that one is pregnant. I get it. But how do these women justify handing the death penalty to a defenseless little person who happens to be flesh of their flesh and blood of their blood? We all have very difficult experiences in this life. She could have the baby, not lay eyes on him even once, sign his over to be adopted and leave the hospital. Nobody would scorn or shame her, no one would fault her. What is that baby killing enthusiasm about?!

Killing the baby doesn’t kill the rapist or the memory.

I wonder if some women think that if they kill the baby, do violence to the reminder of the rape, that it’s taking vengeance on the act and feeling better about *getting back at* the rapist.

In this case, however, I just suspect that she was using that as an excuse to get the abortion because she thought that the loophole was there so she’d just claim rape. Just like too many cases of consensual sex that when found out suddenly become rape accusations.

I think it’s all made up to garner sympathy for the baby killers. They make things up to fit their agenda.

I saw Fr. Frank Pavone on Newsmax, and he made a very good point. I’m paraphrase but he took issue with he pro-aborts’ refrain that, “Well, if someone wants an abortion, they’ll get it one way or another.” But, as Fr. Frank, while that might be true in come cases, it’s not true in all cases. Many lives will be saved, not just because a lack of a convenient abortion option, but also because the message of the prohibition itself that it’s wrong to kill your baby has an effect on consciences.

I’m an arsehole. My wife tells me this. (We’ve been married 50 years). Women don’t report the rape to the authorities, maybe embarrassment, they don’t believe she’s telling the truth, or don’t give a sh@t, I don’t know. Hell, I’m just an old guy but we the people built this. We need to turn it around. It used to be a dad would hunt down and kick ass on a boy trying to get fresh with his daughter. Then the boys father would kick the boys ass when he got home. We’ve come so far from accountability, we just kill the baby. This has to stop. A tall tree and a short piece of rope might help. IMHO.

So she doesn’t know when she was raped?

”abortion clinics turn patients away”

Why turn them away? Don’t they pretend that abortion is only a small part of what they do? Maybe they don’t bother with that anymore.

Anyone who was raped would not wait six weeks to determine if she was pregnant.

Take a copy of your police report on the rape and see if that helps.
Rape?
Yeah. Right.
