Elon Musk's unassuming $50,000 Texas home can be revealed for the first time by DailyMail.com – complete with a rocket-shaped kids' playhouse, Tesla solar panels and CCTV cameras hidden in palm trees.
The world's richest man and new Twitter owner has sold seven Californian mansions in the past two years after vowing to offload his property portfolio and most of his possessions.
He's also denied claims he secretly lives at a friend's $12million mansion in Austin – insisting: 'My primary home is literally a $50k house in Boca Chica/Starbase that I rent from SpaceX … it's kinda awesome though.'
Boca Chica was a tranquil retirement village before SpaceX set up shop there in 2014, buying up the majority of the properties and launching giant rockets from its beach-front test facility two miles away.
DailyMail.com visited the dusty coastal enclave outside Brownsville, Texas, last week to locate Musk's supposedly Spartan digs and figure out if the Tesla mogul – worth an estimated $219billion - actually lives there.
Neighbors told us the 50-year-old does indeed reside in Boca Chica just two miles from the Mexican border – at least some of the time – in a three-bed, ranch-style home a block away from his space firm's Starbase production facility.
County records confirm SpaceX snapped up the single-story, waterfront property in October 2019 along with the adjacent empty lot and standalone garage.
Musk also listed it as his residence when he registered to vote for the 2020 General Election.
'You know Elon Musk is coming because you see the SpaceX people picking up trash and sprucing the place up,' neighbor Jim Crawford, 76, told DailyMail.com.
'He's never alone, he always has his bodyguards with him. He normally arrives late at night, he goes straight inside and rarely comes out.

Sure nice of you give that info out. Did you wantto be the first to tell his enemies?
“No, we TOTALLY didn’t doxx Musk because we’re part of the Lefty haters...” - journo creep
That house would sell for at least $250,000 in the Dallas/Ft. Worth market. I know; my daughter is a real estate agent in that area.
I’ve heard he actually lives on the compound in a $50,000 trailer. He might live in that home in his time off, but I understand that he actually lives at whichever business he is focused on at the time.
$250,000. In Dallas.
$50,000. On the Mexican border.
As they say in real estate: location, location, location.
Looks like House -0.5 has Tesla solar roof shingles...but I don’t see the Powerwall...probly out back
Not original equipment on that place...
SpaceX ownes the whole village. Only one road runs through it. Good luck driving round
It’s not a trailer. It’s a prefab home made by Boxabl, another one of his companies. They come folded up in a shipping crate, complete with furnishings and all appliances, and are unfolded on-site. Perhaps the larger house is where he stays when he has his children with him? The Boxabl house would be too small to have the kids at.
CC
has a nice ring to it.
Maybe the Boring company has some nice tunnels placed there.
I recently read an article in Vanity Fair about “Grimes,” a pop singer who was his “partner” for years. They have two kids. She has, at least, reasonably good motherly instincts, said Elon was happy living In this house, but she knew it was no place for kids and got him to buy her a very nice home in a gated community where they would be safe.
Musk is all about action, neither style nor ostentation are important to him, so she did the right thing and he responded well.
Ironic that Elon’s mother is beautiful woman, earned millions as a fashion model.
“...and two miles from Mexican border...”
That’s awfully dumb.
Not the first time I’ve heard about Musk’s modest living standards.
There was a (apocryphal) story from an ex-girlfriend complaining about the condition of his mattress. He told her to bring the mattress from her place if she wanted to change it. True? Who knows…
Where I live; that’s a $650,000 house.
I have come to have a fair amount of respect for Elon Musk at a number of important points:
I think he’s serious about his devotion to investing in endeavors he perceives may aid in averting eventual human crises; he’s not out hawing snake oil to make a buck, but genuinely bent on creating marketable components of larger solutions to problems that — if they arise — would be critical.
I respect that he uses all his own products; quality issues at Tesla notwithstanding, he’s obviously not out there just cranking out cheap crap and fobbing it off on unwary chumps.
I respect that he’s not out to be The Only Player in his several arenas of business, but to compete in a broader, and broadening market commensurate with his acknowledgement that his efforts would not, alone, be sufficient to meet the need if the crisis point were reached.
I respect that he’s not behaving like the Hollywood set thinking everyone wants to know what he thinks because of his billions, but has been just kind of a real guy in all this; I mean, he gave two hours to The Babylon Bee, for Heaven’s sake. If there’s a sociopolitical point further removed from the din of Hollywood narcissism I’m not aware of it.
I respect that Elon seems not so wedded to his own opinions as to be above changing them given ample data and a compelling explanation why he should consider doing so.
Finally, anybody worth the money he’s worth yet not so full of himself as to be above such a humble dwelling as he’s got there — I respect that a great deal; I think it says TONS about the man.
Between SpaceX security and local sheriff office, nor hardly, you can drive on the road to the beach past the facilities and stop and take pictures
True.
Nice view of the 3 rockets.
Nasa never had 3 lined up.
