What is your favorite song that actually tells a story?

Posted on 04/22/2022 3:56:36 PM PDT by Beowulf9

I admit I saw this elsewhere but I thought it might be a good thing to put here because honestly I look and listen to songs people post. I am always entertained and it opens my mind to many different avenues of musical tastes I have not known before. I hope ones like this column.

Nobody is going to know or remember this, but it is

Polka Dots and Moonbeams.

A country dance was being held in a garden
I felt a bump and heard an “I beg your pardon.”
Suddenly I saw polka dots and moonbeams
all around a pug nose dream

The music started and was I the perplexed one.
I held my breath and said, “May I have the next.”
In my trembling arms polka dots and moonbeams
all around a pug nose dream.

There were questions in the minds of other dancers
as they floated over the floor.
There were questions and my heart knew all the answers,
And perhaps a few things more.

Now, in a garden filled with Lilacs and laughter
I know the meaning of the words “ever after.”
And I’ll always see polka dots and moonbeams
All around a pug nose dream.

Corny, I know, but I love it.
It was recorded by various singers and I believe Frank Sinatra was one of them.

Seriously over 100 posts and no one remembers a song about Alice and her Restaurant?

But I am going to have to go with ‘Operation Mindcrime’

It is an album, but it all comes together as a story.

I drove almost the entire length of the Ontario shoreline of Lake Superior years ago. Looking out across the vastness of that open water from Montreal River Harbour on a gray October day was a daunting and humbling experience.

I thought of that one, too. Reminds me of settlemnents in early Northern Michigan or Canada.

Doesn’t every song tell a story of sorts?

...and the man in the back said “everyone attack!” and it turned into a ballroom blitz...
