Any weapon is useful for defense. If you mean because it can kill armor, it certainly is defensive. Molotov cocktails and short range AT stuff is really risky business.
If I reasonably know a threat is coming and I can target and engage at a mile, my 338LM is a defensive weapon. If I decide to shoot an innocent man at a mile or an inch, that’s not defensive.

Whether a weapon is defensive or offensive is determined by it’s use. If I use a pistol to shoot an armed intruder who has broken into my home, it is by definition a defensive weapon. If I use the same pistol to shoot an unarmed stranger to steal their car, it is offensive.
Ukraine is fighting a defensive war against an invading army. All of their weapons are being used in a defensive manner.
