The six high school students were packed into a small, 2015 Chevy Spark with just four seats - and only the two teenaged girls riding in the front seat were wearing seatbelts, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Wednesday.
The six girls were all students of Tishomingo Public School, according to the district's superintendent. The driver was 16 years old, three of the other girls were 15 and the other two passengers were both 17.
The two vehicles collided around 12.19pm on Tuesday at the intersection of U.S. 377 and Oklahoma 22 in Tishomingo, a rural city of about 3,000 located about 115 miles southeast of Oklahoma City.
Troopers said the girls' vehicle was traveling eastbound on Oklahoma 22 and stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of U.S. 377 just before 12:30 p.m.
OHP Trooper Shelby Humphrey said Tuesday night that the girls attempted to turn at the intersection, which maps show is at the end of a 90-degree curve of U.S. 377 from east to south.
The girls' car was struck by the semi which was approaching from the east on U.S. 377, KXII-TV reported.
The force of the crash moved the car about approximately 300 feet from the intersection, KXII-TV reported, leaving it in a mangled mess with doors and ripped off.
According to the crash report released by OHP on Wednesday morning, the circumstances of the wreck remain under investigation.
Four of the girls, including the driver, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to the OHP report. The other two girls died after being transported to the hospital.

A Chevrolet Spark is only a four passenger car. Six girls were inside. Two in the front seat and four in the back.
I’ll not post the pictures of that Spark after the accident, but they’re out there if anyone wishes to see them. Really all that is left is four wheels and a frame.
“I get angry at drivers that pull that “rolling stop” nonsense. There are several four way stops in our residential area. I’ll blast my horn when a driver doesn’t bother to make a full stop.”
I’m sick of 4-way stops, but in a few places they make sense, but in most places, they’re used for ‘traffic pacification’, which really pisses me off.
I see alot more
“Round-A-Bouts” here in AZ.
Seem to be efficient and
Safe.
.
REST IN PEACE,
Girls.
Very sad news... Between this and the young golfers killed in the crash earlier, heartbreaking tragedies.
May the Lord grant the repose of the souls of these poor girls and console their families. May He someday reunite all of them together with Him in Heaven forever.
I wish there was a program to get truck driver trainers into schools to pass along knowledge.
Screw it. I’ll do it myself.
The intersection almost appears as though the northbound traffic stops at the stop sign, and then are forced to hard right, almost a u-turn, to proceed southbound. If that is correct, it makes this intersection a disaster waiting to happen.
That’s insane if that’s at grade. That should be a flyover.
Once you’re perpindicular to the mainline, it is no different than if the approach was straight all the way.
That is why I said a box on wheels, overloaded with people, sad all the way around
Amen.
Such an awful tragedy.
Praying for the families.
In a split second, so many lives were changed forever.
there’s some unthinkable people out there...
Sad, but true.
I live one house away from a nearby corner, N-S has right of way, E-W has a yield. In the last decade alone, we’ve had probably one accident each year due to drivers ignoring the yield, and almost daily honking there because someone ignored the sign. I’ve nearly been hit there going N-S more times than I can recount, and my mother’s boyfriend almost twenty years ago was hit there. Twice.
Worst part is, it’s blocks away from both a middle school (2 blocks east) and one elementary school (1 block north). These parents around here are fvcking awful.
Point of impact is at lower right corner, then follow the skids/tire marks. Only question is, how did she miss and fail to yield to a large tractor trailer? I'd go with total distraction, not paying attention.
I took a streetview look. Visibility is not bad (we have many intersections much worse), but, the driver turning DOES need to pause and BE SURE what the southbound traffic is doing.
Prayers for all.
Agreed. :-(
The roof and dash were removed by firefighters recovering the bodies, looks like.
Heartbreaking.
