Ukrainian police said Sunday that a U.S. video journalist was killed in the Kyiv suburb of Irpin, which has been devastated by Russian attacks as Moscow’s invasion enters its third week.
Although the police statement described the filmmaker, Brent Renaud, as a New York Times staffer, he is a former contributor who was not on assignment in Ukraine at the time, according to the Times.

“Because he wasn’t a him. He was a moving object.”
Tell that to the media - they’re basically saying he was targeted by Russia because he’s a journalist (and then his body was handed over Ukraine, so that Russia could get blasted in the media, I guess?).
The Russians are killing anything that moves. He moved. He’s dead. If the bullet holes are on one side of the car and not on the other, it’s not rocket science.
“Because a battle for contested ground ebbs and flows. When they find a car with a dead American in it right where the Russians were temporarily driven back, they figure the Russians did it. A fair assessment.”
Possible, but I’ll wait on that...just as likely that Ukrainians killed him for the PR coup.
The media flatter themselves. They go into a war zone. Sometimes they get shot. It’s nothing personal. Except to the media.

LOL, sounds like the case here.
The Ukrainians, in the middle of a pitched battle, are looking for a PR coup? There aren’t enough dead women and children around? The media likes them a dead baby, they does. Maybe the Ukrainians killed them?
“Not sure why Russians would be shooting at him at a Ukrainian checkpoint...”
He was past the checkpoint. He was - according to the wounded surviving reporter in the car with him - PAST the checkpoint.
Do you have a link for that?
I agree that something smells about this.
Why was Demyanenko shot up? The sites I've read are dreadful translations (hence no links), but it seems that he drove away from a checkpoint without being cleared. And/or that he was taking pictures.
There was also yesterday's case of two journalists who drove away fast from a checkpoint (and for excellent reasons): two journalists shot up in Ohtyrka.
In this case they fled from a checkpoint (because a shell burst nearby) and were then shot up by an anonymous gunman.
Not sure there are enough dots here for a pattern: except maybe that checkpoints are very sensitive places, and people with cameras seem to be priority targets.

If anyone here should understand how the media operates when they pick a side, it’s you. That’s why I’m really suspicious of this.
Lot of yakking over nothing. Guy in wrong place at wrong time got shot by somebody.
People are shooting each other and bombs are falling everywhere all the time. It’s a total war going on.. Ya know what…I am going to go there and going to walk out in the middle of it and start asking people questions. What can happen, I have my badge on.
“Do you have a link for that?”
Sorry, not yet, just circumstantial. Too much doesn’t add up.
I don’t think what you say is true about killing anything that moves.
It is most likely hyped up propaganda.
“Another question: How did Ukrainian police get to the scene if he was killed by Russians?”
Because the Russians are at one place and the police another. They are not at the same place. The russians are in Russian controlled area and the police are in Ukrainian controlled area. This isn’t hard Bob.
“Did the Russians really kill him and then hand his body over to the Ukrainians so that they (Russia) could be blasted in the media?”
No, if you read articles about it, his body was left there at the scene. Again, Bob this isn’t hard.
It’s okay to be skeptical. That makes sense. But you’re literally creating a new narrative by questioning a non-existent narrative with questions that have no bearing on what has been reported. You’re hunting for conspiracy theories by creating one no one was looking for. You’re doing a great job of following Umberto Eco’s outline on how to create fake stories as explained in his novel Numero Zero.
You said it was debunked already but you’re still waiting?
I knew you to be a clown, but I did not know it was possible to become an even bigger clown.
I briefly entertained the possibility that Renaud was killed because he had the word “Peacekeeper” prominently displayed: this word may have a different resonance in Ukraine.
But he didn’t have it written in cyrillic, so probably nothing to it.
Right. I was on a 6 day video shoot in Russia about 5 years ago. One of the cameramen was a war correspondent, when to very dangerous places. Told story about being in Africa and trying to run out of gunfire with 2 other reporters. He said (paraphrased), “We were running. The guy on my right went down, and we kept running. Then the guy on my left went down and I kept running and got away. People were sent back after the fighting, one guy survived and the other didn’t.”
It happens in war, there is confusion and the people with guns aren’t waiting to find out, they shoot first.
