As of this writing, the year is 2020. But what if the year was ACTUALLY 1722? What if hundreds of years ago there was a conspiracy by a few European noblemen to change the modern calendar? This may sound crazy, (and, admittedly, it is a little crazy), but is it possible? Stranger things have happened. It all has to do with the Holy Roman Empire, the Pope, and (maybe) the Byzantine Empire circa AD 1000 (that’s important for later). There's this weird theory called Phantom Time Hypothesis suggests that Dark Ages (614-911 A.D.) never happened...
The Phantom Time Hypothesis was first postulated by the German historian and author Heribert Illig in 1991, where he states that this originated as a conspiracy between Holy Roman Emperor Otto III and Pope Sylvester II...
The strong roots of Christianity in Europe, combined with a vain desire to appear anointed by God himself, drove these two men (Otto III and Sylvester II) to fabricate the nearly three-hundred years from AD 614 – 911 in order to make it appear that they were actually ruling in the year 1000. Why, you ask? Because God would only let his chosen people rule in the thousandth year of his calendar, obviously. Makes sense to me...
Indeed, part of Illig's claim is that the entire existence of Emperor Charlemagne, one of Europe’s most significant rulers during the middle ages, never existed at all. He believes that Charlemagne's practically magical ability to rule and unify his empire was indeed possible only by virtue of the fact that it was fictional. Illig is saying that Charlemagne, like the English King Arthur, was a folk hero designed by Otto III and Sylvester II to help fill in the gaps in the phantom time they "created".

This would have had to have been an enormous conspiracy, with participants in many countries. In England, for example, this was a very important time period with the formation of the English kingdom, Alfred the Great, the beginning of English literature. That would have all have to have been made up. Ditto for the other countries. And what about the rise of Islam? Sounds crazier to believe the conspiracy theory than the standard accepted theory. But, as with any such theory, it’s going to have its adherents. I mean, look at our political world and what people accept!
There’s a competing theory that a buncha time “disappeared” by a simple dating convention.
Before years were written as xxxx AD the custom was rather than an Anno Domini suffix, Christian years were prefixed with the first letter of Jesus’ name.
See the problem?
The letter J did not yet exist. Jesus was originally spelled with an I.
The cornerstone of a building built in, say, 372 would have I372 carved in it. A modern observer would think it read 1372 and was therefore a thousand years younger, that pretty much nothing of note was built before 1000 AD!
Hey, the whole conspiracy probably originated in China.

Baldurdash!
Yes, and let’s not forget that the Muslims were plenty busy during that time as well, and there are no “missing centuries” in their records.
The correct sequence is: "A.D. ####."
Regards,
That’s why Otto needed Sylvester. ;^)
There is no single record with a continuous list of Popes that originated in 30 AD. The vast Vatican archive contains at least one document as old as the 5th century, but most of the archives are from the 11th and thereafter, and most of those originated since the 14th, inclusive.

A scene from the Ye Olde Mitre tavern, Holburn, London, Sept. 14, 1752:
“Checking out, sir?”
“Why, yes.”
“Very well. Here’s your bill.”
“Thank you. Wait, what? 5,724 shillings? I only got here yesterday!”
“That’s right sir, you checked in yesterday, Sept 2, and you’re checking out today, Sept 14.”
Hey, previously undetected conspiracies have consequences.
Notice that the time period for Crusades are still real under this model.
And right across the street, a CVS, and a Walgreen’s.
A few years ago, the podcast “Our Fake History,” which covers controversial history-related theories, did an episode on this “revised chronology.” I am tempted to ask the podcaster if he ever heard of Dr. Velikovsky’s chronology.
Ah yes, the AD suffix is reserved for After Dianetics...
When your show covers UFOs and ghosts, you’re given more leeway, because nobody takes you seriously. You’re not a threat to the establishment.

I assumed he was real. Pretty sure nearly all Muslims think so too.
See, if he’d have ordered a Dark Ages breakfast, he’d have gone hungry. /j
No, I think it’s the celery. They stalk everybody.
The validity of any conspiracy theory is directly proportional to the media outrage against it.
