Yes, found in a hut. Thanks.
My neighbor, in my previous life, was Bobby Ballard.
I went to a lecture he was giving about discovering PT 109.
That’s another story; but he was determined, and had to funding to try to find Shackleton’s ship; bad weather caused a change of plans of his expedition. So, instead he went to the Solomon Islands, to use the grants provided by NatGeo; where he found Kennedy’s PT 109.
It's an excellent interview and video. Lots of excitement and descriptions that really go to the heart of Purim, of enduring against all odds... a true story of amazing survival that is
capturing the world's attention at this very time.
The particular scene in the photo below appears a few times in the video and other reports. It jumped out at me for the bright crown on the bow. Even better, is that the last place in the video it appears is in the few seconds including 6:20 (keter כתר).
And then I went to look up sea anenomes and discovered that the Hebrew is שושנות ים, shoshnot yam, sea roses (cf. a compass rose, the rose of the winds).
Sea anenomes = 1112, the same as the famous and wildly appropriate Yiddish proverb,
דער מענטש טראכט און גאט לאכט
(In "Shushan", no less.)
I suppose somebody might get picky and point out that the page title is plural, not a singular sea anenome שושנת ים which is "shoshanat yam" with a value of 1106.
Right. Okay. Now a funny thing -- yesterday before learning of the Endurance news, I was reading chapter 4 of Pirkei Avot, for an important reason seemingly unrelated to the Endurance storyline that I was not aware of at the time. I was focused on this place in verse 13:
Rabbi Shimon would say: There are three crowns -- the crown of Torah, the crown of priesthood and the crown of sovereignty -- but the crown of good name surmounts them all.

Here's a lamb for the sacrifice:
Well, not to leave loose.. ends:
As for the single anenome in the photo, 1106, and the plural of the four crowns I had been reading up on yesterday.
The last four words of the Torah, "Moses in the sight (eyes) of all Israel":
משה לעיני כל־ישראל
= 1106
I always wander across the best stuff -- top shelf -- so like Popeye, I'll just continue to be what I yam.
(bonus -- no crowds!)
the crown of Torah, the crown of priesthood and the crown of sovereignty -- but the crown of good name surmounts them all.
Sheesh, I should have lined that all up before posting:
The last four words of the Torah: "Moses in the sight (eyes) of all Israel":
Moses : Torah
eyes : priesthood
all : sovereignty
Israel : the good name that surmounts them all.
Deu 34.12. And in all that mighty hand, and in all the great and awesome deeds which Moses performed in the sight of all Israel:
bow:
stern:
Endurance. Israel, the last word of the Torah is name that surmounts them all:
Gen 32.29. And he said, Your name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel; for as a prince you have power with God and with men, and have prevailed:
(The first appearance of Israel in the Torah.)
Looks like a flipped-over story as told by those sea roses, the roses of the winds (currents) of the sea.
CAN-DO!
I agree. Captain William Bligh’s ability to navigate a small, overcrowded boat with the survivors of the Bounty mutiny over 3700 nautical miles was no small feat either. I believe he did it with just a quadrant, a compass and his knowledge of tides and currents.
Oh, yeah you know, just some random weirdness nothing to see here as
Shackle-town isn’t just a settlement in Egypt.
But as long as the sanctuary is preserved with the proper donations, all is well in Shekel-town.
The word shackle goes back to old English and beyond: link, chain, connection. In modern use
>>>
A U-shaped piece of metal secured with a pin or bolt across the opening, or a hinged metal loop secured with a quick-release locking pin mechanism.
Coordinate term: clevis
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/shackle#English
>>>
Which hooks up with Latin clavis, which had only the literally sense “key”...
In any case,
Related term:
harp shackle (plural harp shackles)
a shackle shaped so that the opening is smaller than the circumference of the loop.
Synonyms
harp closure
Exactly. A harp closure, how a shackle-town flips to a shekel-town just like that, total round-up time, it’s right on the money [used for Purim charity]:

Remember the article about the fake seal? The expert musicologist was trying to warn the Israeli government, but nobody would listen.
https://newrepublic.com/article/130814/israeli-national-symbol-fake
Good thing, because with all that expert knowledge, she couldn’t discern that a little signature logo is not intended to be structurally accurate. Imagine if this one were subjected to that kind of scrutiny:
It’s like the recent thread about the scientists inventing a pig sound decoder to help *pig farmers* understand their pigs.
Some just don’t know what they don’t know.
The musicologist was named Bathja, and on a parallel track with other experts in their respective fields, was the big problem with the “lame bet”...
... “a droopy leg at the base of the Hebrew letter bet. The letter was never written like that in ancient times, Wolfe argued”
32. And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he limped upon his thigh..
You can’t make this stuff up. :)
As for that “entanglement” presentation, it has always kind of bugged me because in order for the instantaneous exchange of information on either end without interaction, the premise is that both parties already knew what was on the other side.
You’ve sure had interesting neighbors.
At least the weather was better than in Antarctica.
Did he find any Irish whiskey? That was a Kennedy boat, after all. ;)
As long as you don’t wake up with any surprise tattoos you should be okay. :)
I’m watching it now, the footage is AMAZING!! I never knew they had that much film, and to think they carried it all the way with them.
Hope u r enjoying.
I purchased the video and watch it from time to time.
I thought the video was well done.
LOL...my buddy took care of me. Nowadays, your friends would draw crap on you with a permanent marker and shave half you head.
He watched out for me, even the next morning when I didn’t show up for muster. He made an excuse for me, and the Petty Officer accepted it. I didn’t regain consciousness until 11:00 AM the next morning.
WOW!
Lots of data here!
I think it was believed at the time that wooden hulls (suitably reinforced) were more resilient than steel to pressure from sea ice - they had a certain amount of 'give', whereas with steel the rivets simply popped (or did with the riveting technology of the time). Also you could (up to a point) repair a wooden hull. Most of the polar explorers at the time seem to have preferred wooden hulls, although they could have had steel if they wanted.
Real shipmates look out for one other.
Remember when Hunkle was down in the dumps because he had that tattoo? Gertie caused him to reenlist in shame instead of getting married.
Ah but Lt. Reid offered a fine and oh so simple solution:
... Just tattoo panties and a bra on her.

You just watch — the Navy is finally going to get the respect it deserves!
Sailors walk on water just on general principle. :)
Thank you for your alive reply.
Remember what Philip Shayne said about viewing the Greek islands? The only way to see them was
Slowly, by boat.
They’re like fine paintings — you mustn’t rush up to them.
LOL, “Operation Petticoat”!
Yes...my buddy and I enlisted together and went to A-School together, but after that, he went to a training squadron on the West coast, and I went to a fleet attack squadron on the East coast.
He is still my best friend today, after nearly 45 years later. A gem of a man. I always know I can depend on him.
CHEERS BACKATCHA!
Between Morley and Bobby, yes!
Only thing, I never saw Bobby in his wife’s pink bunny slippers. >8-P
