Rising Seas and Government Greed
American Thinker ^ | 7 Mar, 2022 | Jeffrey Folks

Rising gas prices are an immediate problem — rising seas are not. Yet in his State of the Union address on Tuesday, President Biden had nothing new to say about bringing gas prices down. Releasing a few barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is not a solution; it's a Band-Aid that will last about two days. Yet all that Biden can do is repeat the outworn bromide that global warming is a catastrophe bringing drought, storms, and rising seas.

According to most estimates, global sea levels rose by five inches in the 20th century. That's five inches for the entire century, not per year. That is the most recent century we have as a basis for future predictions.

Climate scientists believe that ocean levels will rise at twice that rate through the 21st century, but they have been wrong about many things, and their behavior often appears to be politically motivated. One can speculate about the future, but the past does not lie.

In a few locations, such as Venice, Italy, five or ten inches might make a difference in a city's daily life. In Omaha or Nashville, it really doesn't matter. In fact, there's practically no place in America where a modest rise in sea levels will make a difference in one's way of life. But a rise in gas prices will — as will higher taxes to pay for addressing climate change, despite the fact that human efforts will not actually prevent the climate from changing.

In his latest research, Bjorn Lomborg shows that "US climate policies, in the most optimistic circumstances, fully achieved and adhered to throughout the century, will reduce global temperatures by 0.031°C (0.057°F) by 2100." Not one degree or one tenth of one degree.

Much of the fearmongering comes from the political left which wants to control the means of production...energy use.

“In a few locations, such as Venice, Italy, five or ten inches might make a difference in a city’s daily life.”

Good point, using Venice as the gauge for how much the seas are rising. The city should be underwater by now.

What will it take for the left & our president to commit to the real problems in our country? This situation with the economy has clearly gotten completely out of hand & I see no progress being made in that regard. If something isn’t done real soon we will have people in the U.S. looking like some of the Ukrainian refugees. First order of business would seem to be to ignore the radical “environmentalists” & get our oil production back online, since that’s what seemed to have been used to get us in this mess in the first place.

Introduce legislation that requires all oceanfront property to be confiscated by the government in the name of climate change safety. If they are serious about the threat of rising sea waters, they will assuredly support legislation that saves the lives of those who are currently most at risk, the property owners along the ocean. Force their hand and then watch them squirm trying to explain why they don’t care about the lives of those along the ocean enough to support the legislation. If they don’t care enough about those who are actually at the greatest risk of their climate change predictions, it blows away their entire argument about needing to do anything at all.

When Barky sells his $15 million dollar crib on Martha’s Vineyard and heads to the middle of the Mojave Desert I might consider believing in ‘’climate change’’.
