Sam Elliott rips gay themes in ‘Power of the Dog,’ calls it a ‘piece of s – – t’

Western film icon Sam Elliott is being spit-roasted online after railing on Jane Campion’s 12-time Oscar-nominated drama “The Power of the Dog” for including “allusions to homosexuality” and other LGBTQ themes.

The “1883” actor dropped the shocking bombshell during a recent appearance on Marc Maron’s “WTF Podcast,” Entertainment Weekly reported.

“You want to talk about that piece of s – – t?” the 77-year-old “Tombstone” star sputtered when asked for his thoughts about the provocative Netflix movie, which is a contender for the Best Picture and Best Director Academy Awards.

For the uninitiated, the much-praised “The Power of the Dog” stars Benedict Cumberbatch as a closeted gay rancher in 1925 Montana who’s abusive toward his new sister-in-law and her son.

...

“That’s what all these f – – king cowboys in that movie looked like,” the Oscar nominee ranted. “They’re all running around in chaps and no shirts. There’s all these allusions to homosexuality throughout the f – – king movie.”

Sam’s got a ranch in the Willamette Valley. (Oregon). This may not endear him to some of the locals.

I don't care about the locals...what I am saying is that he publicly sneered about Trump, the usual b.s. about the President not being "the right kind," and so on.

Jeff Bridges did the same thing right around the same time and in the same manner, which struck me as gutless, especially given the way his friends and neighbors have welcomed and celebrated him.

Why would you have any but the lowest of expectations for anyone in the entertainment business?

I loved the movie. It was extraordinary. I love Jane Campion and all her movies. Maybe as a woman I can appreciate the artistry, cinematography and dialogue more than some.

Sam Elliot is an idiot. Oh and I’ve never ever understood so many women who swoon over him. Ick.

He’s DEAD on the beach in 1883. Self inflicted gunshot to the head.

He was EXCELLENT in 1883. A scene with Sam and Isabel May was the best scene I’ve seen on TV or movies. The cinematography, the dialog, the sincerity, made me believe it was real. (almost).

Sam Elliot, Isabel May, and Tim McGraw should all win awards for this show. Faith Hill, not so much.

1883 is better than Yellowstone, and I LOVE Yellowstone.

Gee....are you on the right forum? Loving a movie with homosexual themes is not conservative. You enjoy depravity? You enjoy watching the culture disintegrate? I won’t call you the name that comes to my mind because I would probably be banned. In my humble opinion though, you need to find a pro-homosexual forum to post to.

The older I get the superiority of the films from before 1960 becomes more and more apparent. even the “B” films from then are more watchable than most of the dreck made today.

" I liked Brokeback Mountain as a film I thought it was well done. It told a story of heartbreak and struggle and internal conflict. The gay theme was integral to the story. "

It's people like you who are allowing the death of civilization! "heartbreak and struggle,"indeed how about the heartbreak and struggle of a family's betrayed by a pervert.

Now I see your confusion......you're a californicator.....your progressives are the ruination of the country......crawl under a rock you perv!

That was an offensive post. I don’t agree with you and your opinion about the movie or your homophobia. FYI I didn’t get any of that from the movie.

I’ve been on this forum much longer than many others. Be more respectful.

I’m not disrespectful. You expect respect for what? Your pro-homosexual stance? Well I’m sorry, you will not get it from me. You are part of the problem in this country. Homosexuality is a depraved lifestyle. Calling me a made up term will not change that fact. Do you have children? If so, do you teach them that same sex sexual relations is normal? God help us.

“Sam Elliott is being spit-roasted online.” So what. He is still correct. Hollywood needs customers who are produced by traditional Christian families.

You’re exactly right. Our culture is being subverted by the woke sexual tidal wave. Now we’re to the point where Christians have their rights taken away (cake bakers for instance), Christian adoption agencies are shut down if they do not permit same sex couple to adopt, and our children are bombarded with constant propaganda on all the teen and tween popular sitcoms. And God help the young children who are adopted by perverts while real couples wait and wait for a chance to adopt.

I’m an artist. I appreciate much more from art than a single viewed dark ages view.

You don’t know me. You don’t have any right to tell me what I believe.

Listen sweetie. You’re a hoot. But seriously take a chill. This wasn’t a discussion on mortality. It’s about an opinion on a movie. I really enjoyed it. You didn’t. No problem.

You turned it into your own homophobic nightmare. I don’t engage crazies. Take your own backward views and insulting barbs elsewhere. May G-d forgive you your hatred.

Listen sweetie I don't care what you do for a living. Means nothing. You are twisted in your thinking if you believe homosexuality is acceptable and normal. Call me what you will if you feel it boosts your position but, it doesn't. Wrong is wrong. And you are part of the problem.

And it appears that those with a ‘woke’ viewpoint is allowed to spew their twisted logic on FR. Unbelievable
