The following was a headline on the open forum Sunday, taken from the UK Daily Mail, but I noted that the word “deterrent” was left out of many subsequent stories that followed the first announcement.
“Military chiefs are caught in the headlights as Vlad orders his nuclear deterrent forces to go on ‘alert’ with a decree that shocked the world”
I noted that Vlad described his military team as “nuclear deterrent forces”. Does this mean he’s intending to use nuclear force to deter ANY measure used against his troops, however minor, or do his nuclear deterrent forces exist only to deter others from employing nuclear force against his country first?
The US Department of Defense defense.gov web site describes Nuclear Deterrence as:
“Nuclear deterrence means that when the U.S. has nuclear weapons, it tempers in some fashion the activities of potential adversaries around the globe — helping to ensure those adversaries don’t make dangerous miscalculations about what they can get away with based on what they think the U.S. is capable of or willing to do in response.”
If we substitute Russia for U.S. in the above description, it seems likely that Putin is hoping to prevent another country from using nuclear weapons against Russia first for fear of retaliation in kind. That the media dropped the word ‘deterrent’ from most reporting on the subject suggests a desire to inflame sensibilities and escalate tension. I doubt this is an accident.

A former business partner of Hunter Biden was sentenced Monday to more than a year in prison for his role in a scheme to defraud a Native American tribe of some $60 million in bonds.
The defendant, Devon Archer, was sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison by Manhattan Judge Ronnie Abrams, who said the crime was “too serious” to let him just walk.
I just glanced at Youtube, and there are a lot of suggested videos with experts claiming that the invasion is not going well for Putin. Truth or talking points?
