Amid Thursday morning coverage of the air attacks in Ukraine by Russia, CNN aired an Applebee’s ad — side-by-side with the headline “Russia Invades Ukraine” – and reactions were not favorable.
In response, Applebee’s suspended its ads on the network, telling Forbes.com it was “deeply concerned about the situation in Ukraine.”
“When we were made aware that our ad was placed in this manner, we immediately reached out to CNN to pause our advertising on their network,” Applebee’s said in the statement. “It never should have aired, and we are disappointed in the actions of the network.”

My understanding is that Applebees is a Christian and/or conservative owned chain?
The worst part was that the lead-in to the Applebee’s “chicken fried” commercial was video of bombs raining into Ukraine.
Given that of viewer ship, why would any company advertise with CNN?
Politics aside, it is a waste of money.
Step one — one down, 99 to go.
CNN has advertisers? I’m guessing it’s not very expensive.
I honestly thought when Barnum and Baily closed up clowns would be a thing of the past.
Kudo’s to CNN for keeping the clown show alive!
Advertising on CNN is a donation to the Democratic Socialist Party and funds illegal operations of the FBI and Justice Department to prevent fair elections in the United States.
That’s all it is. Nobody with a fully functioning brain would watch that network.
Thanks for the link. That was pretty awful. Granted, if one thinks about it, the fault is CNN and not Applebee’s, but the point of advertising is usually to hit people when they are not thinking.
Does anybody actually eat at Crapplebees?
And here I thought Putin was the latest Applebee’s franchisee and this incursion was how he was gonna deploy his Ukraine franchise locations.
I haven’t watched CNN or MSNBC since April 2016. My health is better for it.
“These deaths are brought to you by Applebee’s!”
CNN probably wanted to show they were a “serious” network by not cutting completely away from the coverage of the war. But in that case, they should have foregone the advertising altogether, just eaten the cost, and just kept the war on the screen. I’d be really ticked too if I was Applebee’s.
Applebee’s deserves getting roasted for advertising with CNN in the first place.
Why are they advertising on a Dead Network anyway ?
Which makes CNN and their viewers a "target rich environment."
It's tough for the advertiser too though - watching people die in bombing attacks while you're trying to push 2-for-1 appetizers on them is an awkward sell.
