The prime minister revoked the utterly disturbing Emergencies Act last night, but Canada's problems might be just beginning.
What in the world is going on in Canada? Just last night, P.M. Trudeau revoked the Emergencies Act that he'd been using since last Monday to crack down on protesters. But the Parliament had approved those "emergency" measures, as we saw in news reports.
The Emergencies Act was approved in parliament by 185 to 151, with the minority Liberal government getting support from left-leaning New Democrats.
The special measures, announced by Trudeau a week ago, have been deemed unnecessary and an abuse of power by some opposition politicians.
Am I the only person who thinks it's insane to do something this large on a purely party vote? Furthermore, the precedent set is dangerous by allowing authorities to declare certain areas as "no-go zones," allowing police to freeze truckers' personal and corporate bank accounts, and compelling tow truck companies to haul away vehicles. Also, some of the leaders were denied bail. And Trudeau did say that "the threat continues"...
How did Canada get here? This was not a national emergency. It was restricted to some cities and should have been handled as a local or provincial matter.

There was no reason to declare martial law to deal with BLM and Antifa. The only thing needed was for state and city law enforcement to be allowed to do their jobs and arrest looters, arsonists, vandals and rioters, instead of making the police stand down and having mayors and district attorneys exhibit their anti-police bias. I had a front row seat to all of that in 2020 in my city.

Precisely. The riots only happened where they were sanctioned by the local governments.
But the media and the left will try to make us forget by wiping it from the news and the history books.

And, this Emergencies Act empowered local police to do the same thing including compelling towing companies to fulfill their contracts.

There are reports that the truckers did practice some violence. Besides, blockading border crossings and downtown streets is a form of violence.
The only reason some here are ignoring the similarities is their sympathy to anyone/anything fighting the mandates. IOW, they’re supporting the truckers and opposing the Emergency act being used against them because of opposition to the mandates.
You can quibble all you like, but the bottom line is, a government does not need to declare martial law and suspend the Constitution or other governing documents to enforce the regular law against BLM, Antifa, truckers, or anyone else.
Trudy revoked the emergency act because a little bird told him the Senate was going to vote it down and likely a vote of no confidence was on the way.

Not quibbling at all. Just pointing out that most complaining about these steps taken in Canada against the vaccine protestors would have supported the same steps against BLM and ANTIFA.
Declare martial law and suspend constitutional rights in the USA to deal with BLM and Antifa? I doubt many conservatives would have supported such a thing, and Trump would have lost support. He would not have had my support, for one.
The ONLY people claiming there was violence from the truckers are the lying Mayor of Ottawa, the federal government, and the lying MSM. You believe them, or the people who were there dancing in the street in -20* weather, keeping the roads clear of snow and playing in bouncy castles with their children?

You’re ignoring the fact that blockading border crossing points and city streets is, of and in itself, an act of violence. Particularly when it results in many losing their jobs and paychecks because supplies were blocked by the blockades.
The only reason for the support on FR is that these were anti-vaccine protests.

There were many requests for crackdowns here on FR.
BTW, martial law would have been totally inappropriate. Martial law can only be imposed in the US when the courts cannot be in-session. Clearly, the courts were in-session.
Yes, crackdowns by regular law enforcement. Not martial law.

LOL - I can’t believe one of FR’s resident leftists even tried to compare your BLM/Antifa buddies to peaceful protesters. The truckers were even cleaning the streets and shoveling snow. BLM/Antifa only leaves third-world trash and destruction in their wake.
