"A North Carolina dad dropped the mic at his school board meeting. Love seeing moms and dads speak out like this." (CRT)
Wow! Can we clone this gentleman?
I don’t like it. It’s wrong and evil to tell a White child, or any child, that he/she is evil because of skin color. I have two small grandchildren who I love very much. I told my daughter it would be wrong to raise our little ones to hate others because of their skin color. She said she would not do that.
The nation sure has gotten clumsy. Everybody is dropping microphones all over the country. When did everybody get butterfingers?
Thanks for posting I heard about this video but couldn’t find it earlier.
Youtube?
The speaker was powerful, eloquent and persuasive.
“Dropped the mic” has to be one of the most infantile expressions I’ve heard. The infantilization of the language is hurting us.
I believe it means something like ‘there is nothing left for anyone else to say after my brilliance.’ It seems to have propagated throughout the blog world much like everyone seems to want to use the word ‘lid’ in recent months.
“OK, so what does the expression, “dropped the mic” supposed to mean? Too may catch phrases these days that don’t mean what the words actually say. I thought this was about a guy who was holding a mic and then dropped it while he was speaking?!”
Hypnotist giving a performance and has four men on stage and they are are hypnotized. That’s when he “dropped the mic” on his foot right before yelling, “Well F- me in the butt.” I’m told they have to call 911 before it was over. [cleaned up slightly]
and he’s running for legislature
What does mic drop mean?
A mic drop is an emphatic and declarative gesture signifying the conclusion of a performance of note, often literally (or as if) dropping a microphone.
Where did mic drop come from?
Mic drop comes from the practice, initially (but not exclusively) among hip-hop artists, of finishing a performance or song by dropping the microphone. While the term was once employed in starkly literal fashion, it appears to have taken on sufficiently figurative status that actual microphones need not necessarily hit the floor.
Agreed.
Well, you nailed it. It comes from low-life origins which makes se3mse because it is basically a stupid expression.
Thank you for your response.
God Bless you for your service and the values you uphold for your family!
“OK, so what does the expression, “dropped the mic” supposed to mean?”
Means everything that needed to be said was said!
My understanding is that it comes from beat poets/ranters that speak into a microphone, wrap up their bit with a killer line or question, then just extend their arm and “drop the mic.” By that moment, the audience is either stunned into silence or cheering wildly. The microphone makes an audible “boom” as it hits the floor. The speaker leaves the stage immediately after the drop with a quick turn to the wings or backstage and walks away, ignoring the audience.
Well, “dropping the mic” is just another meaningless expression that’s kind of stupid, and those of us with a modicum of intelligence should try to stay away from stupid and promote clarity.
I was looking for a video, but found this:
What is a mic drop statement?
A mic drop is the gesture of intentionally dropping one’s microphone at the end of a performance or speech to signal triumph. Figuratively, it is an expression of triumph for a successful event and indicates a boastful attitude toward one’s own performance.

Then found a video referencing Joe Rogan (I won’t link the 0bama video):

(language warning, but apropos)
It means you’ve delivered your argument with logic, reason, facts and a good verbal left hook , your opponent is agog , there’s nothing more to say “Boom*, drop the mike and exit the stage.
Sounds more like he dropped (fumbled) the ball. Stupid expression.
