RIP, P.J.
One of the funniest political commentators/satirists ever.

Sorry to say that I’ve never read any of his works, but I’ve been saying that same thing for 25-30 years,

First knew of him from National Lampoon...funny guy turned out to be an influential conservative.

He was a great writer and a big loss.

O’Rourke described the presidency of Barack Obama as “the Carter administration in better sweaters.”

Dang.
He was one of the main reasons we used to get the National Lampoon magazine back in the 70s.
He’s built up quite an oeuvre since then.
RIP.

I lost my original copy of Foreigners and reordered it in the 90s from the Lampoon. To my shock & delight they had many pristine copies in stock.
Want to bet, even if they have any copies left now, they would never send them out! Modern youth would never get the satire.

Holidays in Hell was another great read. He was a class act and a very gifted and funny writer.

At his best, P.J. was an excellent writer with an assassin's eye for the absurd. I'm sorry I never got to have a drink with him.
Along with everything else, thanks for "Uncle Buckle, The Safety Buffalo."

That’s because modern youth see nothing wrong with “corrupting the morals of farm animals” (hat tip to P.J.).

This is shocking. I thought he would never die, and perhaps he never will as his wit and wisdom will live on in his writings. Very few authors can make you laugh out loud while reading; he was one of the few.

My favorite quote was that giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys.

So true. I remember once when I was on the train on my way downtown to my office I was reading one of his books, and I just burst out laughing, loudly and uncontrollably, with tears running down my cheeks. People on the train looked at me like I was nuts. And I didn’t care.
