Its three masts are too tall to leave the shipyard without dismantling a huge piece of Dutch history and infrastructure: the Koningshavenbrug bridge, also known as the De Hef.

The bridge has stood in Rotterdam since 1927. It was heavily damaged in 1940 when the German Luftwaffe bombed the city. During renovations of the bridge in 2017, the city council promised residents the bridge would never again be dismantled. But when you have Bezos money, never is not all that long, from Dutch News:

A bridge less than 100 years old that got hit by a bomb doesn’t sound very historical to me. The French even dismantled the Pegasus Bridge which was much more historically significant.

One of these days someone’s gonna make a Jeff Bezos biopic, and it’s just going to feel like a Lex Luthor movie without Superman.

Dig a canal around the bridge, fill it in after the boat is out. This isn’t rocket surgery!

Normally in these situations they install the mask(s) after to boat get outside of bridges. Guess they cannot handle installing away from builder.

Looks like an update to an old guided missile frigate.

They used those vertical parts to erect the bridge in the first place. That operation would be similar to how they assembled the massive crane way at the Newport News shipyard.

I think it’s supposed to be all stainless steel. Still ugly.

One of the most beautiful modern sailing yachts I’ve seen is Tom Perkins’ ‘Maltese Falcon’:

A Delorian yacht?

Perkins seem to have a lot better taste.

It is a lift bridge. The center section raises and lowers on two towere; just not enough. Not a big deal to remove/replace the section. Not even a nice looking bridge.

Lift bridges can be beautiful. Check out the one at Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts.

The ‘Black Pearl’ is beautiful, too; and is said to have been inspired by the ‘Maltese Falcon’:

If the problem is vertical clearance, how much is the yacht taller than the bridge? If is is less than a foot or so, just bilge the yacht down into the water until the highest point clears the bridge. Also, wouldn’t it be cheaper to reduce water flow under the bridge for a short zip under the obstruction?
