A Dutch company is currently building a 417-foot mega yacht for Amazon founder Jeff Bezos that, once complete, will be the largest sailing vessel in the world. The only problem? Its three masts are too tall to leave the shipyard without dismantling a huge piece of Dutch history and infrastructure: the Koningshavenbrug bridge, also known as the De Hef.
The bridge has stood in Rotterdam since 1927. It was heavily damaged in 1940 when the German Luftwaffe bombed the city. During renovations of the bridge in 2017, the city council promised residents the bridge would never again be dismantled. But when you have Bezos money, never is not all that long, from Dutch News:

Nobody figured out beforehand this could happen?
My sentiments exactly, and that he is charged triple the actual cost too. 🙂
Here’s a photo
Come on, people, keep buying all your stuff from Amazon. Help make Bezos the world’s first trillionaire.
Looked at the yacht. They just need to find a better spot to rig it, and relocate the yacht and masts.
It seems to me that one famous Conservative icon had the same idea...but I always wondered if he not only smoked but actually *bought* the pot three miles offshore...
Don’t you hate it when that happens?
3 masted schooner. This is probably cheaper than moving the yacht to a new location for rigging. Screw the little people.
I have a solution, a well placed JDAM on top of that Yacht. If Dr. Evil is on it at the time, well that would be a shame.
It is a lift bridge. The center section raises and lowers on two towere; just not enough. Not a big deal to remove/replace the section. Not even a nice looking bridge.
Just chainsaw the masts 2’ below the bridge clearance.
Remember the Rainbow Warrior...
Far better to sink the yacht, tow it under the bridge, then refloat afterwards. The little smarmy POS deserves as much.
Oh, and place a homing beacon on it for future target practice by AF/Navy. Please.
Here’s my technique.
Search for auto parts on Rockauto (I like their catalog system).
Cross reference at Amazon, eBay, and Summit.
Buy from lowest price source.
A little Gorilla Glue can easily repair them.
Drain the water out and put the boat on wheels. Geez do I have to think of everything?
Dig a ditch around the bridge?
Anti-Bezos thread. No common sense posts allowed.
So do you really want to sail on a ship when the builders couldn’t figure out how to get it to the ocean?
Can’t they float the masts under the bridge and put them up elsewhere?
