‘We Failed’: Danish Newspaper Apologizes For Its COVID Coverage

A Danish newspaper has apologized to its readers for not questioning the government’s data and narratives more throughout the first two years of the pandemic.

The Ekstra Bladet, founded in 1904, said it should have done more due diligence in examining the government’s data and conclusions before reporting them:

“For ALMOST two years, we - the press and the population - have been almost hypnotically preoccupied with the authorities' daily coronatal,” wrote Bladet journalist Brian Weichardt. “THE CONSTANT mental alertness has worn out tremendously on all of us. That is why we - the press - must also take stock of our own efforts. And we have failed.”

In the mea culpa, which went viral on Twitter earlier this month, Weichardt suggested the newspaper should have asked more questions about how public health officials were tabulating data.............."The apology is an important reminder that the traditional role of journalism has been “an independent monitor of power,” not a mouthpiece for power."

Our press will never own this, because they are gleefully a mouthpiece for Democrats.

from the article

In the United States, media have tended to view the utterances of Dr. Anthony Fauci, the White House’s top medical advisor, as a kind of gospel. MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace could have been speaking for many when she called herself “a Fauci groupie.”

The NIH head has been featured on more magazine covers than can be easily counted, saw his life the topic of a Disney biopic, and (as of June of last year) had done no fewer than 400 media events—even though his role is not a public relations one.

Most media have been shy to question or criticize Fauci, despite his pandemic flip-flops, and are content to take his words on faith. Some journalists even appear to have published articles pushing back on narratives problematic to Fauci’s public messaging at his request.

Fauci himself has taken a hardline approach to those critical of his pandemic strategies.

“....they’re really criticizing science,” Fauci said in November, “because I represent science.”

goes double for American journalism and the academe.

actually, the only true journalists left in America are citizen journalists like James O’Keefe:

“The muckraker’s revolution is not one of reform or radicalism, but a return to truth, for there is only one true reality.”

“...FR $hot $hills...”

You mean like that stupendous fraud “gas_dr”? Ain’t heard a peep or seen hide nor hair of him for awhile now. How about you?

Perhaps he’s catching up on his sleep after all those 32-hour shifts he claimed to be working.

Sighing - I am not a journalist and my wife and I have been asking serious questions since April of 2020. No words - Asking questions was what you were supposedly trained to do.

Good that some media are apologizing.
The bigger problem is not that they were wrong, it was that so many who tried to correct the official narrative were forcefully silenced.
Apologize for that please!

The rats begin abandoning the sinking ship.

No gaslighting will be permitted. They were all, all of them, complicit in this operation. They can no more plead innocence than the German citizens who watched their Jewish neighbors being drug from their homes and transported to the camps.

Straight to hell, with all of them.

The details matter.

Were the owners of the newspaper on the payroll of Big Pharma—and enforced a wall of silence?

Were the editors truly stupid?

Were reporters banned from independent research online?

This apology looks to be in good faith—I would tend to give them the benefit of the doubt—and hope they openly answer the questions I have listed.

Unless every one of these individuals offering an apology walks away from their job, the apology is meaningless.

There are certain positions that come with an extraordinary amount of responsibility; the trust we give to the individuals who hold these positions is sacrosanct. Anyone in this position has one chance to get it right; fail at that, and you're gone.

The deaths, disabilities, and financial hardships that have been unleashed on this world with the complicity if not the outright support of the press is unprecedented; anyone who wishes to apologize has to walk away from their positions, even if it means joining those on the unemployment line.
