Inside Evs ^ | 23 Jan 2022 | EVANNEX

It turns out that last year, an electric car sold more units than any other car (gasoline, diesel, hybrid, etc.) in Switzerland. The Tesla Model 3 didn't just rule all EV sales in Switzerland, but also all types of cars.

The following chart released by the Swiss IVT Astra shows that Tesla's Model 3 has beaten the sales of every car in the country in 2021.

According to the Swiss Federal Statistical Office, electric vehicle adoption in the country is growing at an exponential rate. Comparing Nov 2021 to Nov 2020, new car registrations for electric vehicles grew an impressive +63%.

Recall the satellite photo of North Korea at night?

Now Switzerland will surely be the same!

Their grid will be devoid of all volts and amps...absolute zero no electrons moving...all of them sucked out to power their EVs.

Making watches in the dark or by the light of the luminous dials.

Switzerland is 1/3 the size of North Carolina.

A bicycle would do.

Eventually the roads will need to be paid for. Will be fun when the owners get their bill.

“Largest extension west - east: 348 km (216 miles)”

Trump should buy it and put it in western ND...

Sure, the future of places where range is not an issue. If I lived in an urban area, my second car would be an electric.

For some perspective, West Virginia is bigger than Switzerland.

Not that many will be able to afford EVs.

If what I have been reading is correct, used EVs do not sell. That means that in a few short years Switzerland is going to have a used EV recycling problem. There could possibly be a decent money making opportunity here for the person who figures out how to successfully recycle lithium based batteries.

They can invest in under road induction charging. That would be sweet. Rich homogeneous population. Let’s export them 13% blacks, 20% hispanics and the rest and see how they do.

pros

quiet
a lot of maintenance disappears
cheaper for now in terms of fuel cost
can be cleaner but depends on what generates the electricity

cons

range anxiety
initially more expensive
refuelling takes longer sometimes a lot longer
extreme temps reduce range and energy even more
can blow up

All the cons won’t stop evs from advancing regardless though.
Switzerland isn’t even the first country to have this happen. Norway was the same IIRC some years ago.

How much of that becomes disposable income after taxes, cost of living, etc.?

Dunno if you've been, but Switzerland is pretty "hilly" - it would really work out a cyclist.

Lots of battery tech in the pipeline that will provide 1000 mile ranges and dramatically quicker charge times.

Please disregard my question. Switzerland has relatively low taxes and cost of living. I was thinking of Sweeden.

Maybe for Lance Armstrong. I'm not going to bicycle up the side of an Alp. Ever been to Switzerland?

Norway is a perfect case study in how EV markets could work, and how limited they seem to be. The entire country has a population about 30% smaller than the population of New York City, and almost one-third of all Norwegians live in the Oslo metropolitan area.

That simply doesn’t translate to a North American model very well at all.
