Build your own, they said

If you don't like censorship across social media, then go "build your own” platform, the traditional conservative attitude goes. After all, we can't have the government dictate what content is acceptable. It is foolish to get the government involved because the government can also use that power against you later. Unfortunately, the government is already moderating content, and even Biden is speaking about it openly.

The "build your own" attitude downplays the extremism radiating from the left. This is what makes it so disappointing when prominent conservatives, independents, or libertarians like John Stossel (whom I like) still cling to the "build your own" attitude as if they're ignorant of the radical nature of today’s Democrat party. The John Stossel "build your own" attitude assumes the left values free market competition as much as he does. For what reason does the "build your own" personality think the left will sit back and allow conservatives to build anything? The left is insatiable. No amount of censorship will ever be enough.

Large big tech companies colluded to take down Parler. Web hosts have banned conservative websites like Bare Naked Islam and Illegal Alien Crime Report. Payment providers like Paypal have banned countless conservatives from Gavin McInnes to Ian Miles Cheong. Banks have banned Mike Lindell and Dinesh D'Souza. And like locusts seeking their next meal, the left has moved onto their next avenue of censorship – telecommunications providers.

Back in October, CNN's Brian Stelter complained about the conservative network, One America News (OAN), suggesting that cable providers should not carry OAN on because it "is not just a conservative channel. It's a conspiracy channel, and there's a big difference."

The left would be screaming if they started being cancelled.

Does Stelter still not realize that the Russia hoax they’ve been pumping for years is a conspiracy?

“If you don’t like censorship across social media, then go “build your own” platform, the traditional conservative attitude goes.”

Is that the “traditional conservative attitude” or is that the libertarian attitude that took over “conservatism” over the past 40 years? Apart from that minor quibble, he does a good job of taking down the “build our own internet” argument. Start with building our own banking system.

There’s a lot of dispicable creeps out in media land and in government but Brian Stelter is one of the most disgusting creatures to inhabit the earth.

I, for one, recognize and realize it is dang near impossible not to be frustrated. I’ve had liberals state during a conversation that conservatives are gullible and easily fooled and that they can fool any conservative 24 / 7. I’ve also heard liberals say that they allow conservatives a win here and there just to keep conservatives interested in playing their game. Thus I too wonder what is the answer ?

I only saw the headline yesterday, but it’s a good sign that rumble wants to launch their own payment platform.

You need to do more than just create your ‘social media’ platform. The left has other powerful ways to meddle in things that would seem absolutely corrupt in saner times, and they can deplatform you by demonetizing you or hitting you at your infrastructure and connectivity.

When you start making the first movies, it may still be as futile as a game of tic tac toe, but at least your making the other guys turn reactive. In the end, if they really want to raise their levels of corruption, they can deplatform anyone by going after DNS root servers and blocking domain resolution and blocking IPs, but that would be a be a huge coup

Conservatives still SHOULD and NEED TO start our own platforms.

And FR should be at the forefront. If JimRob licensed out the PLATFORM there would never be another need for FReepathons ever again. DISQUS gained tens of millions of subscribers using inferior coding to FR.

The tech that rumble relies on; https://builtwith.com/?https://rumble.com/

One of them is My Salesforce which is from a company called Salesforce.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salesforce

Salesforce is an American cloud-based software company headquartered in San Francisco, California. It provides customer relationship management (CRM) service and also provides enterprise applications focused on customer service, marketing automation, analytics, and application development.

There are open source CRM solutions but they take a little more work than relying on SAAS.

One of the founders is; Marc Benioff

Check him out; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Benioff#Social_activist_platforms

Leftist, obama/hillary fan and fan of the World Economic Forum.

That is brilliant. Bundling should be illegal, people should be free to choose their own.

The John Stossel "build your own" attitude assumes the left values free market competition as much as he does.

It isn't about free markets, it's about the Constitution and private companies having the right to choose what they want to say - or not say.

It’s true that the start is the hardest part. Fireproof, Courageous, and War Room were all Christian-based movies that Hollyweird refused to make. So a Christian church made their own movie, and then another, and then another!

They were very hard to get distributed at first because Hollyweird worked to block them. But, once the movies broke through they were put up in the same large cinemas and did well against many of the Hollyweird movies. As a matter of fact, their popularity caused Hollyweird to start making a few more Christian-themed movies.

These storylines were great - the acting was no worse than a B-rated horror flick, just without the gratuitous nudity and blood. And honestly, their acting got better as they continued to make more movies. Many Christians I know, including my wife and I, started looking forward to the next movie from these producers and actors.

It can be done. But it requires hard work and perseverance!

And they have paid people who meddle here on FR.

De-platforming you from social media is like the phone company and the electric company cutting off your services because they don’t like your opinions expressed while talking on the phone and staying warm in your house.

If the Deep State controls big tech, then certainly they must control the telcos - they must control DNS.

Spend a billion $$ "building your own", and then find yourself unplugged.

Stossel is naive at best.

One can build one's own, but it must be small and stay under the radar, IMHO.

I doubt there would be much demand for a twenty year old code base and platform that feels like 2000.

Don’t get me wrong…that’s why I love it. It’s simple, resilient, fast, clean, and easy to read. But we are dinosaurs.

***Have you been on DISQUS? It aint simple, resiliant, fast, clean nor easy to read. It does far less than what FR does and they have tens of millions of subscribers.
